I felt like Snoke had all his attention and energy focused on keeping Rey immobilized, that he didn’t notice that Kylo moved the lightsaber. It’s a stretch but I think that’s what happened.

  4. He also was seeing what Kylo was thinking. Just wrong saber.

Honestly, Snoke was just lame. Not knowing anything about him made him way less of an intriguing villain than someone like the emperor.

  7. also it’s like a version of empire if Luke joined Vader, cause together they could fuck up the emperor. but then was like nah I’m out after. I’m glad Rey left.

I think he was honestly meant to be misdirection. All this time was spent to drum him up as the supreme villain when he actually wasn’t

I just wish he didn’t feel like someone that was pulled out of thin air in context of episodes 4-6

I feel like this could have been stretched into two parts. I know it seems crazy, seems like they had so much to say. Would rather a 4 episode Disney set. Rather, something smushed together into 3 episodes. IMO. Maybe something to forcing it to a trilogy given the previous two?

Totally disagree. If this was stretched into two parts than the first part would be INCREDIBLY weak

It’s just tradition, each arc is three episodes. Now it could be broken with this trilogy but the way this ends, it could honestly wrap up in IX.

  14. Very excited for new Rian trilogy too.

That dude is good at what he does.

I really want an Old Republic prequel trilogy.

Fair enough. Just felt this wrapped up quickly. Force Awakens was just different?

  17. I unabashedly love TFA and this also made me appreciate what a high degree of difficultly that film was to do and it be successful.

  18. It’s a documentary of 2017.

Surprisingly, the /r/movies thread about this is pretty civil and solid. They made a good point about how Luke’s Force projection didn’t leave footprints in the salt, something that was foreshadowed with the Resistance soldier making a comment about it earlier. I totally missed that, that’s a cool subtle element.

Pretty sure that serves as a reminder that hope remains. Don’t feel like spoiler tagging so I will just be vague.

Btw, I like how we finally learned where the damn blue milk comes from. That and I really enjoyed how many practical effect there were, it was a nice throwback to the originals in that way.

Completely agree it was a great film. Obviously not as clear and concise as TFA and R1. However, great film. Just heard comparisons to Empire strikes back and wanted to hear feedback.

Hot from Reddit but someone made an extremely good point, this is a film about failure. Practically every character and group tried but failed to achieve their goals in the end. In that failure though, people learn and become stronger and better from their failure or they will learn nothing from it. I feel like this is how the Resistance will win in IX, they will learn from this moment and use this wisdom to defeat the First Order, who learned nothing and hold onto their hubris.

as Yoda says "the greatest teacher, failure is" (or something similar)

Something I'm thinking about now that'll I'll need to listen out for is Snoke explaining how he set Rey up. Did he say that he was the one that was connecting her and Kylo? Because if so, how are they connecting right at the end when Rey shuts the door on him?

It was her basically closing the door on him. She allowed him to be in her mind via Snoke and after she realized how he’s never coming back, she’s turning her back on him because Ben is never coming back.
