My entire twitter feed is either “This is on par with/better than Empire” and “This movie absolutely sucked, Star Wars is Dead” almost no in between. Gonna need multiple viewings and I’ll report back.

  2. I’m on the middle. Didn’t leave with same high as tFA, but still liked it a lot.

Not in the better than Empire crowd, but I really liked this. There are more moments I didn't like/made me cringe than the last two movies, which probably accounts for my reaction being somewhat tepid, but there are so many incredible moments and set pieces in this. I didn't dislike any of the major story/character turns and love the risks taken. Excited to see it again.

Wasn't super impressed, but I may end up seeing it again tomorrow with family.

I was definitely expecting Leia to die. Wonder if they have unused footage of Carrie Fisher they'll use in the next one?

It didn't need to be two and a half hours long. The middle dragged quite a bit.

Rose and that entire storyline was sooooo meh.

They mentioned that Ben Solo left the jedi temple with more of Luke's students. I wonder what happened to them?

This might actually be my favorite Star Wars movie, and I’m a big fan

Not really a spoiler at all, but funny:

My local theater had a ton of signs mentioning how there’s silence in the movie about an hour and 50 minutes in, and that it’s not a defect. Shit lasted like 30 seconds and was clearly an artistic decision, how dumb do they think crowds are?

Oh my god. I can’t believe what I just saw. Wow.

Better than TFA by a lot for me, and I really liked TFA. Johnson has some guts doing a lot of what he did here. Surprising in so many ways. Absolutely gorgeous, too. I can’t list all the times my jaw dropped just looking at this movie. Bravo.

It was really more like ten seconds and yeah, they must have had some seriously moronic test audiences to think they had to warn us about it.

  8. I had two kids behind me cracking jokes the whole time I had to tell to shut up. That’s my only theater story.

There’s a lot to digest. I definitely enjoyed it. But some things aren’t sitting right with me.

  10. Definitely not as tight as TFA, I coulda cut quite a bit. But then Finn has nothing to do all movie. And, Poe has little. The script needed work. The Snoke death was kinda lame. The Luke fight was great. I don’t know where Kylo is as a person. Rey remains awesome. Porgs!!! If they knew Carrie was gonna die I bet they rework a few things. Too bad. She was very good in this though. Hero.

I think the high points in this are better than most of the stuff in tFA. But tFA is a more consistently solid movie, if that makes sense.

The only thing I thought was stupid was Leia doing a Force Mary Poppins in space The rest was good/fine, y’all some nitpicky people. Also, no way this was worse than Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones, not by a fucking mile.

  13. I liked it more than Rogue One. And maybe Jedi. That’ll be where’s it ends up for me, before or after Jedi I think. I’ll know after the sixth watch. I don’t have the same “gotta see it immediately” thoughts I did walking out of TFA though.

    Still a lightsaber high though.

  14. I disagree with that. There’s some great high points in both, but there are multiple “classic” moments throughout TFA that if they come on I’m like “oh shit gotta watch” and there’s a couple here, but they’re mostly all at the end.

  15. Leia scene was fine/theater clapped. Casino scene was a god damn catastrophe.

That was probably the weakest scene in the movie aside from Leia in space. Lots of cool eye candy and I’d honestly like to see more stuff like the casino in side movies but it was largely filler.

  17. and as we find out basically pointless, and it didn’t give Finn any real character growth imo.

i thought bringing up that both sides are basically fighting and the weapons manufacturers are the ones profiting and playing both sides. It’s too bad it was saddled to the weakest plot and was easily forgotten.

Also, BDT felt like he was channeling Michael Richards.

I feel like they tried with a potential romance with Rose but it was pointless. Honestly, dude should’ve been allowed to sacrifice himself to the cannon.

  23. Love the risks with the mythology that Rian took though, and the retelling of the Ben/Luke story. And what being a Jedi means. To him and the galaxy.

This was one of the strongest points of the film for me.

  25. I liked Rose, but Finn coulda gone, and it was a weird plot to get something they didn’t actually need/use and pointless. And didn’t really help show me anything about the characters.
