    Just curious.

Does anybody have some new favourite/high liked bands/artists as a result of the CMCS?

I'm hoping to make time to listen to the O'Brother album again tomorrow. I liked the first listen a lot, want to listen 1 more time before I wrote my review.

I have to hand it to @Mary V for Mitski and @bachna84 for Mezingers. Been digging them both a lot lately

I’ve sang the praise a couple times already but Gang Of Youths are already in my EOTY top 3. Fell in love on first listen, still listen daily.

Was gonna do this later but might as well now. This past week i had the pleasure of listening to Ryn Weaver’s The Fool and Charly Bliss’s Guppy thanks to @ImAMetaphor

I’ll start with Guppy. I’d heard of Bliss but had no prior experience and didnt know what to expect. I’m admittedly not a huge fan of her voice, but it’s a really catchy pop/indie rock record. while the instrumentation’s simple, it sounds great and works well. My favorites were Westermack, glitter, and ruby. I come back to Westermack a lot.

Next up was The Fool. Appropriate name bc this record’s stupid good. Apple Music calls it alternative but it’s a pretty straight synthy pop record. That said, OctaHate may be the best pop song I’ve heard this year. I’ve shared it to other friends and they like it too. The chorus is gracefully aggressive and stays in your head for days. Stay low, Sail On, and Here Is Home are my other favorites.

    Thanks for the recs!

Here are my thoughts on my second recommendation of round 3 from @Matthewconte

Margaret Glapsy - Emotions and Math (2016)

Out of the 3 recommendations I've received from Matthew over the last couple of weeks, this is the one I can see myself going back to least. It's not that I dislike the album, it's just not really my thing, although it has grown on me a little after 4 or so listens. Probably best described as soft grunge? with some folky and jazz influences. Margaret has a real lounge singer feel and some of the songs here I could picture being played in the background of a noirish movie, where two lovers are having a clandestine meeting in the corner of a darkly lit bar. For me, You and I is the standout track, probably the most straight-forward pop song here, with lyrics describing the breakdown of a relationship.

I’ll have my Augustana thoughts up later today

For next week, I will be listening to:
    The XX - The XX
    Slingshot Dakota - Break

And @ImAMetaphor will be listening to:
    The Antlers - Hospice
Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2

Sorry I'm really late with mine, this week sucked. @AlwaysEvolving21 recommended these two albums for me:

    Casual Friday - Weekend Forever
This was just, alright. At times I definitely felt an early Weezer vibe, but a lot of it sounded the same, and I couldn't really get into the singer's voice. But it was still a fun album to have on in the background.

The Apology Tour - This Is Why We Cant Have Nice Things
I really dug this. So many different vibes I got from them. Some songs I felt some Biffy Clyro, other songs I felt some Basement. A good album to have on at the gym or in the car to get your blood going. Will probably return to this some more.

Also found it interesting how few streams each album had on Spotify. Some of the Apology Tour songs had <1000. Where did you find these albums dude? Lol

Apology Tour is Nick from the Swellers, I’m guessing that’s how he “found” it

Thoughts on session number 3 with @Fuck You Aurora.

Alkaline Trio - My Shame Is True (2013) - I've never listened to Alkaline Trio. I've always known of them and knew they were well respected, had a rabid fanbase, and inspired many logo tattoos. With that being said, this never really clicked with me. I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. My favorite stretch was definitely the final 4 songs, with "Young Lovers" being the true highlight of the album. I can appreciate what Matt Skiba and co. have been able to accomplish over the past 20 years but it's just not my cup of tea. It goes without saying that many bands I listen to list Alkaline Trio as a major influence, and for that I thank them.

Dan Adriano in the Emergency Room - Party Adjacent (2015) - Again, someone that I have never checked out and frankly never heard of, probably because of the lack of Alkaline in my listening world. I do have to say that I enjoyed this more than the majority of My Shame Is True. This had layers here that I thought were lacking in Alkaline, I can see that this is a project for Dan to experiment with sounds he wouldn't be able to otherwise. I found myself tapping along the whole time, but my ears really perked up when "Don't Have a Thing" came on. Those guitar tones paired with Adriano's vocal performance worked so well together, I'll be listening to this song again for sure. Another standout was the simple, raw acoustic song "Plain Old Whiskey". Acoustic lo-fi recordings are my kryptonite, they make me weak and I loved this song. Overall I enjoyed a majority of what was here, and that in the end I could walk away with some gems.

My partner still hasn't responded and sounds like they never responded to confirm last week's recs so if they never do I can be paired up with someone else whose partner hasn't, or I can sit out a round (it reeeeeally truly wouldn't bother me lol I'm kinda a messy wreck lately)
