Because the bowl games themselves don't want negative press and what good does it do FAU to be like "yo, these games are too expensive so we're staying home."

I enjoy doing bowl mania so I don't mind all the games but I just want them to cut shit like the fau game out and give us more intriguing matchup. It's mostly the mid majors that have set themselves up for nothing. The cusa mac and sun belt champs are all playing in very meh games.

I'd like to see it change up so those conf champions actually get a nice ending game.

In a perfect world I wish those 4 conf champs would play in some sort of mini tourney even.

yes, he does. It is VERY expensive for any school to go to a bowl game, especially if they do not sell their allotment of tickets.

When Western Michigan went to a bowl game in 2014, the beat writer at the time recapped all of WMU's bowl game appearances until that point. Here's what he had to say about the 2008 game they played against Rice in Texas. It was the furthest they traveled for a modern bowl game:

The highlighted link referenced in that article is this one right here:

    and more:

The mid-major teams lose money on every bowl game, across the board. FAU has a chance to avoid that and let's not kid ourselves: their players will still get a royal treatment for the bowl game in their own backyard.

This is an entirely baseless theory without measurement, but looking at Heisman voting, there's something going on with the guys who finished 7th, 8th, or 9th.

    2003 - Big Ben (9th)
    2004 - Aaron Rodgers (9th)
    2005 - DeAngelo Williams (7th)
    2006 - Ray Rice (7th)
    2007 - Matt Ryan (7th)
    2010 - Andy Dalton (9th)
    2011 - Russell Wilson (9th)
    2013 - Derek Carr (8th)
    2014 - Dak Prescott (8th)
    2015 - Ezekiel Elliott (8th)
    2016 - Christian McCaffrey (9th)

Mason Rudolph, McKenzie Milton, Kerryon Johnson was this year. Milton is staying in school. Buy low on Rudolph, boys. Future stud confirmed.

The flop of multiple heisman winners in the last decade kinda makes these reactions seem a little on the nose

Nope, but there's a correlation in success.

Not really related. Only six Heisman winners have gone into the HoF (so far). Damn.
