ITS UP!!!

 

I’m really glad they got experimental on this album. It sounds like SOTY, but there are things they wouldn’t have done on past albums.

 

I'm on my 5th listen but feel pretty confident listing this as my AOTY.

 

I still have to listen to the new Glassjaw before I make that call.

 

Not really feeling this new electronic sound. It's just all over the place. I mean, this could almost sound like a project by only Ryan and Dan. I'm missing a lot of real drums and bass, and it almost feels like wasting good guitar parts when combined with silly dubstep-like beats. The record is supposed to have an 80's horror vibe, I get it, but it's the mix between rock and electronic music that just doesn't work for me. Don't get me wrong, this is not a BAD album, there's just too much electronic influences on here. The songs are OK, some of them are even great. This just makes me appreciate their older heavier stuff even more.

My favorite songs from Wolves (so far) are:
A Part of Me, Bang Bang, Give Up My Heart, How Can We Go On

I had almost the same reaction on my first few listens. When I think SOTY, I think energetic songs with crazy guitar riffs and solos. It bummed me out at first that it's not what we got, but the more I listened, every song is still a quality song.

I might switch out Constant and Page, but your ranking is how I feel.

 

For me SotY is big catchy anthems so Wolves is right on point for that.

I heard their new single on the radio yesterday, and I dug it!

It’s too early for me to rank it with the other albums, but I don’t see it surpassing In the Wake and The Black Swan for me. I still like my heavy SOTY the most.

 

Yeah, I guess it's just a matter of taste after all. I'm just glad they're releasing music again, and more so that they're doing it independently, sort of.

I just hope not all of their future albums are going to be like this. But I'm definitely going to listen to this new album front to back a lot more times, especially when I get the vinyl... Who knows, maybe it'll be my new all time favorite, haha.
