Thanks to this thread I decided to check out Dredg, Hum, and Failure... none of which I had listened to before. Holy shit.

  2. I loved el cielo (sp?) back in the day, but honestly haven't listened to it since probably high school.

I'm loving Dredg's El Cielo right now... Knowing the types of music I usually gravitate towards it no surprise I'm clicking with this haha

crazy how different both band's stage banter is 15 years later. Its like they found value in the "less is more" approach

I throw that album on a few times a year when I need to crank out some work. Lietmotif is good for those types of days, too.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I wish I agreed. They're both half good half utter wank to me.

This is cool. I'm not loving it but I'm enjoying it a lot.

Happy to see my persistent attempts to derail the conversation away from this terrific record resulted in people discovering some incredible music.

Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy is an abomination. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking, but it feels like it completely stalled the band because they barely played in support of it and then went completely inactive. I put on El Cielo from time to time, and it always feels like the first time. "The Canyon Behind Her" is still among the greatest album closers ever in my book.

Dredg is amazing, first time I ever saw them, they opened for none other than Glassjaw. Such a great show. Last time I ever saw GJ play Cosmopolitan Blood Loss

Dude, seriously, the bands that have been mentioned on this page are stellar. Check out everything Hum and Failure have released (not a whole lot, but it's all fantastic), and start with El Cielo by Dredg. Catch Without Arms is amazing too, just a much less ambitious effort in some ways.

Dredg and Glassjaw?! Ha that's awesome. Crazy how much synergy there is between all these bands.

It's not fair that some people reading this thread are about to discover the Failure, Hum, Shiner, and dredg discographies for the first time all at once. That's prolly like 2000 hours of lifetime music listening for me, ha.

Probably one of the greatest shows ive ever been to. Dredg, hot water music, glassjaw and Sparta. It was dope

I really used to be into Catch Without Arms (and El Cielo too) - guess I will revisit

in the decade of comebacks, that's one I would dig, especially after that last horrible record that left a nasty taste in my mouth

Man Citizen is starting to get it’s hooks in me. Whole album is starting to open up, and I’m noticing new things. The bass parts especially are like peeling layers away. So many groovy sections

I remember being so disappointed in Chuckles and Mr Squeezy. Such a major drop in quality from the rest of their catalog. One of my most disappointing album experiences

Update: Failure and Hum are phenomenal!! I adore '90s grunge/alternative rock, so I really love how these two bands had such unique takes on that sound.

Nice, dude! So awesome to see you get into both of those bands. If you haven't already, look up Ken Andrews' wiki to see the crazy amount of great projects he's worked on as an engineer/producer. He's had such an immense influence on many of the bands we love. Their other guitarist, Troy Van Leeuwen, was one of the original members of A Perfect Circle and went on to join Queens of the Stone Age. I hope I can one day accomplish even a fraction of what some of these guys have done with their careers.

There's only been two times in recent memory where a release got this much early playback from me. Beck's style of guitar is just phenomenal. Daryl sounds great, I like the risks they took trying some new stuff.

I'm not exactly sure what input Travis and Chad have on the album, but the drum and bass parts are my favorites next to the work on Our Color Green. They're welcome new limbs.

Also, never got into Dredg, but Hum is cool.
