i think i'm late posting my thoughts but w/e

@littlejohn recommended sparta - wiretap scars to me. One of the first things that struck is me for some reason the vocalist's screaming reminded me a whole lot of Laura Jane Grace. Maybe that's just me, but that was my first thought. I don't listen to a lot of rock these days, so I appreciated this band's ability to write catchy, almost pop style hooks. That said, this album is fifteen years old, and does feel dated to me. Probably because I spent so much time listening to a lot of albums that sounded a lot like this ten years ago. I will say I'm a total sucker for the guitar tone used throughout the album, and the songwriting is at least a tier above most of the bands that came out of the genre. If I'd heard this album ten years ago, I would've been all over it and it would've been in rotation, but today, it doesn't really offer anything new to me. I liked it, I'm definitely keeping it in my library, but I'm not sure I see myself going back to it too often. Red Alibi was a standout for me.

  9. @WolvesAreCircling182 recommended the following albums for me:

Jack's Mannequin - Everything In Transit
This is a really fun album! You were correct about it being up my alley - I'm forever a sucker for pop rock songs lead by keyboards. Vocals are passionate and inviting, the melodies are catchy. I do feel like some of the songs blended together but I probably just need more time with it. Didn't really connect on an emotional level but y'know what it's probably a good thing since I usually connect with music about depression and anxiety sooo it's fine lol. Standout tracks are Dark Blue, Miss Delaney, MFEO, and Into The Airwaves. Into The Airwaves is a great album closer!

Taking Back Sunday - Tidal Wave
This is the first TBS album I've ever listened to. Obviously I knew them for a long time but never bothered to listen. I was sold instantly by the frenetic Death Wolf, and thought of one of my closest friends on Twitter since that's their handle. Every song has a memorable hook. I enjoyed the tempo changes throughout the album - I'm glad they weren't all like Death Wolf, I do need a slower track like Homecoming, which is another favourite on the album for me. I look forward to listening more. Title track is also badass. Overall, it's an impressive rock album and better than I expected. Thanks for the recommendations!

Hey, so looks like things are moving quickly in here and I missed out a bit haha. But, my thoughts on the last two albums recommended to me by @bradsonemanband.

    'Til Tuesday - Voices Carry

This 80's easy going pop rock album was a great listen. Being a fan of stuff like The Outfield, Flock Of Seagulls, The Cars, etc, the energy goes up and down a bit from song to song, but it was extremely catchy almost every track. Funny that I recommended him to listen to The Sounds this past week as well, which is almost the evolution of this band's sound today.

Frank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours

I didn't admit that I already knew some of these songs of course. It was nice to here this album front to back all at once, which I knew I hadn't done. Who doesn't love Frank? I'll be hearing his voice for the rest of the month now too, so I liked that it wasn't a Christmas album.

@bradsonemanband did you post thoughts on mine and I missed it? Trying to catch up now.

Genuinely asking, is there a food thread? If not, can we have one where we post our favorite/best/unique dishes. I'm also sort of really hungry right now.

@JRGComedy and I exchanged for this week. He gave me Madd Oso - Sleep Cycles. I gave him Alexisonfire - Watch Out!

Yeahhh buddy! Gave 'em He Is Legend based off of their love for Foo Fighters and O'Brother cause O'Brother. I thought of going with Endless Light, but I really think Garden Window is a great introductory album. Cleanse Me alone is worth it.

Yeah, Garden Window is a great introduction to the band.

so for my rec @skogsraet recommended cakes da killa - Hedonism

First off I have to say that I've never listened to any rap/hip-hop albums before so my only exposure to those genres have been on TV or radio, and nothing I've heard has engaged me enough to listen to an album.

    Having said that:

I decided to give this album a shot because I thought "what if I'm missing out on something that I'd like". So I listened to it twice, right off the bat I was surprised by the music and theme of the album. It was interesting and not what I was expecting. I somewhat enjoyed it, around the middle of the first listen I found myself getting distracted and kind of losing interest in it altogether, I think it kind starplots to blur together for me. I did not like the vocals in some spots (the last track) just didn't sound very good to me, not sure why but he was trying to sing and it just didn't do it for me.
The 2nd listen was probably a little bit more interesting because I was more familiar with it, I didn't get as lost in the middle as I did the first time through.

Overall I would say that this was a very interesting listen, but it's just not my thing. It was definitely more interesting than the rap/hip-hop songs I've heard on the radio, but not enough for me to return to.

Thanks for the rec and some exposure into a genre I have not explored at all.

I want to match with you and give you more hip-hop because TV hip-hop is not representative of the genre at all.

yeah and I kind of know that already. I just have never been intrigued enough by the mainstream stuff to dig deeper.

even with genres that I like I find that I don't want to put in the time to search out other artists that I might like. I've just gotten pretty lazy with music listening in general. I've listened to the same 10-20 bands that I've been listening to since 2006 and haven't expanded that much, kind of why I joined this club. hoping to force myself to listen to more stuff that I might like.

I've now listened to 5 new albums this year.

BN, Glassjaw, cakes, what what what, circa.

It's okay, I have been super lazy these past couple years as well. That's why I'm really digging this thread. Since I effectively have a deadline, I feel forced to check out stuff I otherwise never would have.
