I was 10 hahaha. Man you missed out on a great era of music.

I did too though, as I love music dating back to the 50s when my parents were kids.

I hated Purpose honestly. I think it won a lot of ppl over but he sorta won me over with Journals and I was totally bracing myself to love his next release and it didn't happen. It made me think less of him than I did before. I jam to the j balvin remix of Sorry but otherwise I still can't believe his comeback worked.

I pretty much only like the 80s stuff like Run DMC, Public Enemy, and Beastie Boys lol

If I was going to listen to any of it, that would be it!

It's really sad someone can straight up hate a whole section of music.

Not really, some people just aren't into the vibe that certain genres or styles give off and that seems fine to me

Not sure if this is the right place, but I've discovered I either REALLY agree with hyped albums on this forum, or am insanely indifferent and there is no in-between or balance. But I'm always made to feel lesser in these cases. Always.

So I guess my unpopular opinion is that it should be more accepted to have unpopular opinions.

Not liking entire genres of music is sad. There's always interesting messages and worldviews to be found outside of what you're typically listening to. It's always important to look for those no matter what. I don't think it should be an indictment of taste if you don't like an entire genre, because sometimes you just don't like something and I find that totally okay. But to be continuously dismissive of a genre is to ignore an entire conversation. And whether that's rap or bluegrass or or or...

tl;dr: you're not required to like a genre, but don't dismiss it and don't give up trying to find something you like in it every once and awhile.

You're cutting yourself off a whole section of music you may love because you have a preconceived notion you won't like it. I find that sad.

My dislike for country music is totally unreasonable. When my mom moved us from southern California to a rural town I was so mad and for whatever reason country became the thing that represented everything I hate about it and I directed my angst at it lol. Prob cause it's a big deal to the town and I hate the town and liking it would mean the town changed me or something and I've lost my roots, and I don't want any part of what this town represents. I listen to a handful of country ladies but it's still hard for me to stop being a bitter asshole over it lol. Country fans where I live can be kinda dismissive too, acting like country is the only meaningful genre and being racist towards other genres so that always annoyed me. Not that it's country's fault ppl suck but I've spent so many years directing angst and ire at the genre it's hard to undo now that I'm older and see its unfair.

My novel about hating an entire genre. ia that it's sad and dismissive, especially given how rich and diverse genres are when you're willing to explore them.

Also I hate a lot of hyped albums on here but I don't think anyone has really cared. Sometimes ppl can be really condescending tho, like my life is lacking because of it, but ppl are usually cool. Tho I'm not always super vocal about it cause I don't wanna be the Debbie downer that rains on the parade

I find it weird that people label it "sad" someone doesn't like a type of music. Like, I know I don't like country or rap, I've heard a lot of both and can't get into either. The most rap I've liked is Twenty One Pilots, and they sometimes do it more than I enjoy. And the closest to country is maybe some Kevin Devine songs (and those usually end up bottom tier KD songs for me anyway). Like, if others are playing the music I don't care, and I'm totally open to it even if I've never ended up liking it, but why would I actively search for something I probably wouldn't like? It doesn't negatively effect mine or others lives, it's just a difference in taste, which is totally fine and just a part of life.

There's so much variation within every genre. I used to think I hated country, period, but over the past couple years I've discovered stuff that I really like. For example, Kacey Musgraves made one of my favorite albums last year. I still would say that I dislike the majority of what I hear in the genre, but I've opened up to it a lot. There's plenty of music out there that might surprise you if you give it a chance.

Anything I've heard just doesn't sound good to me. Can honestly say I've never found a song/album I've enjoyed.

Not really. Nothing I've heard has interested in me in the slightest. I'm always open to suggestions.

Get out of here with that shit. What the hell Mr. Table Flipper. This is not the place to like music.

I definitely give it a chance, I just don't actively search for it. I give it a chance every time a friend, or store, or wherever plays it. Hell, I give Nickelback a chance everytime I hear them. I try not to have pre-conceived bias towards stuff, but I've never liked something in either of those genres so I feel no need to search for stuff in it. haha
