im not sure if this is a "masterpiece" per se but it certainly works as a strong declaration that Glassjaw still got it and are still a heavyweight in the oversaturated post-hardcore genre. its the band firing on all cylinders imo

I gotta give it like 5 more listens before i really say anything but for now i will say this:

Everyone who is saying this is too chaotic? Do you listen to this band?

As long as we can all agree it stomps The Color Film.

After several listens (5 total, mostly while driving), I wished there were more "slow" songs with more vocal-centric melodies like W/T. The bass RIIIIPS... guitar work is fantastic (albeit hard to digest on initial listens) and the drums are also well done (although it sounds like Billy was really channeling specific Glassjaw songs to emulate rather than putting his own spin on it). I think Daryl is too low in the mix but maybe that's a good thing... his style on this record is more complimentary of Beck's work on guitar/bass.

It'll def end up in my Top 10. The more I listen, the more I like it.

Beck's style is so fucking cool. Even when things get weird and wild it still grooves so hard. This is honestly the kind of record I would love to play on/be a part of.

New review up over at ThePRP. Wook is a hell of a writer.

Here's a snippet that really resonates with my opinion:

Yes? I mean you see people in here saying how weird and wild it is, you have the DEP drummer, Closer is one of the fastest tempos they've played at, some of these songs sound Earth crushingly giant while still being chaotic (like Pompeii), the production is done in a way that everything blends together in a messy, chaotic way

    I don't think it's that hot of a take.

Making it work for a single guitarist is the impressive part for me. I feel like a lot of the time he's using envelope filters / phasers and string noise as a crutch just like he relied on the synth on Coloring Book.

And there's nothing wrong with that... these tricks really take away from the "musicality" of playing guitar. It's hard to make such crazy sounds WORK on guitar and it's even harder to do that when you don't have a more tradition guitar tone being played by another member. The bass is what really drives this record... the guitar is the biker meth that makes the trip wild and dangerous.
