When will interludes stop being considered filler? Untitled offers the listener such a nice breath of air after the soaring outro of Luca and before the pummeling drums of Archers. I can't imagine the album without it. I think it plays an important role towards the album's end.

But how do you know it "doesn't normally take that long to write a song?"

Also, I don't think "it is just the Internet" is an excuse for anything one says online, which is another ignorant thought to have.

    forbidden chalice.

I've always loved how the two interludes lead straight into the only two "start fast/end fast" songs on the record. It was one of the first things that grabbed me on the record. It felt so unique to me at the time and I still find it so interesting how the start fast songs don't come until the second half. The only thing that comes close is Millstone and even that is an eerie creeping vibe.

No. The statements you've made here show that you probably have never taken time to pay any attention to detail on the actual TDAG tracks, and probably don't have very much background on their recording process or the perfectionist effort that was made by the band at that time. Filler = lack of effort, lack of detail, let's toss some songs on here that we are just "ok" with to wrap up this record we don't really care about that much.

So the songs on the latter half of the album, took less time to write than that of your average song? With your average song not taking long as it is?

Great conversation, glad you really took the time to elaborate!

They only album that I really cringe at when it comes to his voice is TAYF. Loved it way back when, but not so much now.

I know it isn't popular opinion, but I was big fan of Live at Orensanz. I thought his rough and cracky vocals mixed with matt's clean and smooth vocals was great.

Oresanz is fantastic. One of my favorite live albums. Their live at Bamboozle set was pretty good too. I think it's from 09.

It took me way too long to put two and two together and realize what Magazines is about. It's still one of their catchiest songs. I love the starting and stopping and the harmonies.

saying "I don't like the back half of Devil and God" is fine... But saying "it's filler and probably didn't take them that long to write because of the types of songs they are" is... Well... Ridiculous.

"Those types of songs" help compile one of the most collectively beloved albums of this scene... Like, it's fine not to like the album obviously; its music, it's not meant for everyone to like it. But to discount half the record and imply it was thrown together on a limb because of the demos leaking... Cmon dude!

And I guess the reason I brought up the fact that it's so collectively adored is because does anyone really think an album with half objective filler could have that kind of impact on that many people? Not only that, but that kind of impact for 10 years now.

For me at least, filler = the songs I subjectively do not enjoy very much and do not need to be there for my personal enjoyment of the album. It's just a term ... c'mon people, we really don't need to overthink this.

The point here is that no matter how much effort the band put in, I don't need to like any particular song, and furthermore that there's no inherent value in taking a greater amount of time.

I really don't agree with the other user that these songs are "objectively" filler; like I said above, it's just a word I tend to use to express the bolded part of your post. It's filler in terms of my experience (I also wouldn't say the entire back half is filler either, just to clarify).

Well, shit. Guess I triple posted.

that's totally fair, and to be expected. Not everyone is going to like everything and people can't get bugged by that.
I guess what made me raise an eyebrow is the other user talking about the leaked demos and kind of making it seem like half of TDAGARIM was just thrown in because they didn't want to put all the leaked tracks on there.

Yeah, I dunno, I can't agree with that at all. No way I see this band doing that.

If brand new was the type of band to do that we'd be waiting on LP7 in 2016, not LP5

Got SUPER EXCITED and then sad.

TDAG is GOAT, and I am sad this explosion wasn't LP5.

Yeah I definitely don't hear this. If we go off of what little new stuff we have (Out of Range, Nobody Moves, Mene, live recordings) I think that's just what he sounds like now. He's older, he's a smoker, voices change (see Andy Hull from Virgin to METN).

I also don't dislike Your Favorite Weapon at all, haha. I was just making a joke. It's just a weird album for them because everything else they've done is on a completely different level. it still has some of my favorite songs, not just from this band, but in general.

I bet we see something before the tour, an announcement or single.

Also I agree calling something filler because you don't like it is silly. I also think the suggestion that Devil and God had filler just because the demos were left off is silly. Also The Devil and God is consistently great from beginning to end in my biased opinion.
