Japanese Post Rock

I don't think there is a country that has nailed it quite like them. Post recs and things you love.

 

this doesn't really count, i think? but it is japanese - it's more prog/experimental rock i guess?... not really good with genres! it kind of reminds me of circa survive. anyway, really enjoy the song and not sure where else to share it haha.

 

not purely post-rock, but envy is a great band that has flirted with the style

 

It's also from one of the two animes that made me cry for days. lol

Funny story: I watched the whole thing in Afghanistan. During the last episode, I was watching it in my hut when I started to hear explosions. We were at a point in the deployment where we would ignore it and just go back to bed. This time though, guys start banging on my door, saying that we needed to go to the office. I'm bawling my eyes out over the ending to an anime and they are trying to rush me out the door. I'm sure it wasn't a pretty picture, but in retrospect it was hilarious.

Fox Capture Plan is the best discovery I've made in a very very very long time. My god this is great.

 

idk if blonde redhead counts since they're a bit more structured, but the vocalist is japanese and they are incredible

I need to check some of this stuff out. Mono are one of my favourite bands (and super good live as well).

 

don't think they count but that is a top band for me

 

the dual albums from Mono last year were pretty sweet
