Yeah, "they're the type of band that I wouldn't be surprised are abusers" is a pretty horrible thing to say in general, regardless of context. Did anyone expect the member of PWR BTTM to be an abuser? Type of music/band has nothing to do with that.

I won't deny that I've played a role in that but for fucks sake, everyone, we're literally attacking each other.

Yeah this is disgusting for a ton of reasons. Really disappointing. I'm glad that KP are joining the list of bands who have prioritized their health over touring and pushing through and that they have the support of their fans and others on the tour to get through it. I first heard about it because Tiny Moving Parts posted that they were canceling the tour and stand with Joe. That's exactly more of what we need in the scene and to try and silence it with baseless accusations is so so harmful.

 

Not that I agree with the speculation, but the environment is set up for it right now, especially considering that multiple industry folks have come out said "more is coming" or "i know others that disappointed me but they haven't been outed yet."

Everyone in this thread is probably questioning the bands they listen to, given what we know now about a band/individual that we never thought would be capable of this.

 

even if your brain jumps there, look into the situation before making an accusation as serious as something like that is.

 

They dropped off a huge tour like it was nothing. Makes me suspicious. Sorry guys.

I think its important to remind people not to become too cynical and to still look into things. My guess is a lot of peoples minds may have originally went where yours went, just next time try to gather information before making a statement like that.

Agreed. Especially when the post was HERE. It's not like someone said, "Oh wow did you hear about Knuckle Puck?" with no context. It would take 30 seconds to actually read what the situation is.

So a guy drops off a tour for his mental health, and some people instead assume he's an abuser... Yeah I'm not surprised some people find it so hard to talk about their mental health at all

 

Got a bunch of people in here that think they're justified in their disgusting speculations. They're using this situation as a reason to treat people like garbage and clearly don't care about the victims of any of these sorts of actions. That's all.

and I totally agree with you. It's not an accusation I made and my brain didn't go there. I felt like I understood his post.

But I'm not surprised the speculation exists.

 

The onus isn't just on me to research into it, though. More background would have been great, too. That's a two-way street.

More background than the entire Facebook post with all the info we have?? It's ok to admit you were just wrong, you know.

 

I feel like I shouldn't even have to point out how fucked up it is to react to someone apparently opening up about a past abuse they experienced by questioning/assuming that they themselves are abusive. He doesn't owe anyone more information than he gave, and we should always believe victims when they come forward - even if they do not explicitly state what abuse occurred.

 

Modern Baseball did the same exact thing earlier this year. Do you think those guys are abusers?

 

By questioning him to this extent like some in this thread have, they're also pressuring him to come out and talk about his experiences in detail to prove he's not an abuser, which is even more disgusting.

 

He deleted his original #MeToo tweet. Here's a follow up. Sounds like he was the victim here, genuinely don't know how you can read that FB statement and think otherwise?

 

It's exactly the same thing as the people yelling at Nicole for proof or digging into her life to twist her experiences to make her into a liar or a criminal. Only this one is doing it under the guise of outing abusers and pretending it's to protect victims, as if assuming literally everyone is an abuser helps absolutely anything or anyone. That horseshoe theory could not be any clearer.
