I shouldn’t even dignify this with a god damn response but it’s so stupid I can’t help it. Never said or equated those two things to one another. Specifically talking about the character of a man many idolized in this thread, knowing full well he didn’t give a shit about his band, what do you think he thinks about the fans that propped his band up?

This is to speak nothing of the unspeakable shit that has come to light in the past week.

 

If my friend slept with another friends wife, I would view him in a negative light. Not because two consenting adults had sex, but because of the whole cheating thing. Clearly not as bad as abusing minors, but not something that should be totally ignored.

 

I mean, I cared. Being able to do that to a band mate, your cousin, when you’re the best man in the wedding? Weeks before your own wedding? That does say something about character. But it’s a totally different level where the accusations went last week.

 

I didn't know either. I've been out of loop of following close news of bands for seven years now, let alone rumors. With that said, like everything else it seemed like the kind of thing that people didn't want to believe either, just like these stories with Lacey being a creep aren't actually new. And it's basically treated as a rumor because Lacey was married and he couldn't possibly do that. So while @fame is correct, since that instance is about two consenting adults, it's simply not the same as preying upon underage people, it's like the whole Lacey mythology of a good guy barred people of actually believing it as true.

I don’t think we need to qualify every response with one is worse than the other. We know that. That’s pointing out the absolute obvious. I was just commenting on the blind fandom this band has inspired. An event like that regardless of if it contained 2 consenting adults is something that would temper my shit big time. This comment is only being made because of the undying loyalty this band and man has inspired.

Honestly, while I completely get that you understand, I feel like some simply don't. Not even saying people that post here, talking about even lurkers. So while it's fucking obvious to us, unfortunately we live in a world that we have to literally spell that shit out, regardless how dumbed down it is.

 

idk maybe it's just me but there are literally hundreds if not thousands of artists that if i found out they had cheated on their spouse or slept with a band members fiance or whatever i'd just be like "oh, that person seems like a dick" and still continue to listen to them. to me this is different

 

That's because it is. For example of a different industry, Whedon cheated on his wife. I feel terrible for his wife that stuck around him through the thick and thin, she even comments about some fucking repulsive stuff that Whedon said about being surrounded by "beautiful, needy, aggressive young women" and while I'll never be able to see him in the same light, it's not like he isn't also famous for being friends with most of the actresses he has worked previously. So while that raised a major red flag to me, what ended up looking to me is that he was an asshole to his wife and benefitted from the power he had as a filmmaker / television head, as long as there isn't women accusing him of sexual abusive behavior, while I don't condone his shit behavior to his wife, I don't feel bad watching his films. So yeah, this is very different than cheat on someone - while that is still very much abuse.

 

I think a lot of the brand new talk is now being played off that Jesse is a playa and these are just mad he didn't marry them. My god...

 

It’s almost like we have a broken culture.
