I've been re-reading through all the old "Fueled by Gossip" livejournal stuff to see how much of these things were out there as "rumors" back in the day.

There's stuff from like 10 years ago with people talking about underage fan/band relationships. A lot of it is anonymous posts but it's kinda like how Gawker covered a lot of the gossip/open secrets for these huge celebrities first, and then it all came pouring out as true. Just something I'm thinking about. That said, there's also a bunch of weirdly obviously untrue stuff on there ... people just making shit up. What a weird site.

 

Sadly these band guys using power to sleep with women doesn’t shock me. What shocks me is how rampant the underage thing is.

I had hoped all that was scrubbed, lest my adolescent poetry surface to the light of day.

 

You know, this whole thing reminded me that when i was in high school, around 2003, some friends of mine confided in me that they had slept with members of Bayside and Finch.

We had the discussion because they knew I was a big finch fan and I would be jealous. We were 16 or had just turned 17. Those guys were probably in their 20s at this time.

I never even batted an eye at that information until just now.

My point being, having lived through a lot of it, I suppose i shouldn’t be surprised at how rampant it seems to have been.

 

It's like half visible/mostly just broken links and deleted comments and weird shit.

It's quite creepy to read though.

 

so like how many of you took solace in this music scene and are just totally confused about so much stuff right now... like how was I able to find so much comfort in something that was so terribly broken

 

Society as a whole is broken, man.

I’ve not listened to any music except for the radio since reading about all of this. Brand New were one of the few bands I’d still get excited about and after having a rough few months their new album coming out then looking forward to seeing them helped with that. Now that’s gone :(

 

why so?

a lot of these allegations are from quite a while ago. this has been going on. this isn't something that just started now.

in fact, we might even be progressing by actually mentioning these things and getting people out of the scene.

 

Well I think I’m trying to remember that this isn’t just our “idols.” It’s the people we come in contact with every day. Sadly, it’s not just the entertainment industry, it’s life. And I think we’re finally beginning to change that. It’s louder when it’s our idols because we put them on a pedestal, when in reality shit like this is going on in your neighborhood too. It sucks, but the statistic on how many women have been sexually assaulted speak volumes.

 

Your post taken by itself is perfectly fine and makes sense. But as a response to my own post, it's a weird reply. I don't get how me saying "society as a whole is broken" made you assume that I said this hasn't been happening for years. It just doesn't make any sense as a response to what I said. Stuff like this happening for years is just another example of my point, that society is broken.

 

I gotta say, it really isn’t helping my mood that the current case I’m working on features a domestic violence dispute.

 

Imagine if we applied the same scrutiny to politicians as we do to musicians. Man, what a different world this would be.

 

I just listened to a podcast about how Fox News, specifically Hannity, is portraying the recent wave of accusations as liberal hypocrisy. It is insane that this has become a political issue.

Haven't seen it mentioned in this thread, but there's Don Brocco accusations all over twitter.

 

Punk music leans liberal and we still have the gross reddit responses so...

 

yes but one sex offender is president and the other guy just had his career ended.

 

I feel like if you polled brand new fans if they supported Jesse or not you’d get a percentage not too far off our recent election

I think it was mentioned briefly earlier on. They’re releasing a statement shortly I read on Twitter.
