Drug users cause harm to themselves and their family, instead of other people. A serial abuser of children can be rehabilitated, no one is claiming for his execution. But what I'm saying is that neither of us need or should to give him absolution by theorizing why he did what he did.

Exactly! The implication of these posts (or at least my inference) is that people who do this are irredeemable and could never be forgiven when, for some of us (myself included) that may not be true.

I disagree. I'm not fantasizing or romanticizing anything. I am still shocked that he did this.

I think that with ever terrible person getting their shit aired out right now we can learn from this situation.

I don't know why jesse did these things, but his lyrics now appear to be mostly autobiographical and that can offer insight into his mental state.

I'm really not sure why you keep picking this fight with people. we are all on the same side here. this is not reddit, we believe the victims and his statement doesnt deny anything, confirming the reports.

No one is giving anyone absolution. We're doing what humans do: trying to understand the things we see and experience. That may not be of interest to you, which is fine, but don't come in here and tell us we can't do it.

Also, your point about drug users is not necessarily true.

Look maybe I wasn't clear about the point I'm trying to get across. I'm not trying be an asshole, or be some sort of white knight. I just don't think this thread is the place to discuss if Jesse was abused and is continuing that cycle of abuse. Especially when there is no evidence of such a thing ever happening.

I do think it's important to understand the psychology behind criminal behavior but I really don't think this is the place to discuss it and I don't think any of us are really qualified to discuss it.

Sorry if I was being an ass.

Because it's hard to process this. I'm not talking this from a place of hate. I'm talking this because I genuinely hope that people can process this in a healthy way. Focusing so much on targets that you can hit because you have a disagreement OR focusing so much on trying to theorize why Lacey did what he did is simply the wrong way to cope this, in my opinion. I'm not judging anyone, I'm not trying to force my opinion into anyone, I'm just trying to explain why focusing so hard on theories about why Lacey acted the way he acted is wrong. Once again, protagonism and victimhood: it doesn't and shouldn't belong to him in this situation.

The second verse of Digging My Own Grave by Thrice just stood out to me...maybe I’m reading into things.

You say you're not judging anyone, but then you use a value judgment to describe what some were doing by calling it wrong.

A drug users family isn't other people?

Recovering drug addict here. I've caused harm to many people.

Dustin touches on infidelity often in his lyrics, which is what I interpret that as. See also: Deadbolt, The Weight, Promises

I haven't listened to the song but read the lyrics just now, and it sounds a lot like he's talking about alcohol or gambling or cigarettes being the "fling" and he can stop when he wants.

sounds like addiction mostly, could be adultery/infidelity also but that's what I got from it.

I mentioned this in the Thrice thread, but preparing to propose to my longtime girlfriend, talking about getting a house in the next few years, ideally starting a family soon, Dustin's lyrics, solo and with Thrice have been really wonderful to delve into about how to be a good man, husband, father, being.

I'm not saying that's what you were doing. I don't even think I've quoted you on my original post. Not picking up any fights. Just trying to honestly help. And I know how stuff like this works: You see someone that you disagree with and you're frustrated and shocked and you want to fight and argue something tangible. Once again, not saying you are the one doing that, but some are.

I'm not doing that. And by the way, I think I've said my piece forever on this place. I don't belong here anymore. I was honestly just trying to help. I do agree that we are in the same side, my whole point was to point out the importance of not romanticizing, fantasizing or rationalizing Lacey's actions. That's not the time, not the place and like it was said previously, neither we are qualified to do that. We can't romanticize the abuser. Period. No judgements of who did or did not. That's a fair assessment, isn't? Be excellent to each other, ladies and lads.

True. The “look but don’t touch, it’s really no big deal” part is what stood out to me. But I can also easily see that he could be talking about infidelity of the eyes and heart in the scriptural sense.

Survivor here. I don't think that conflating drug addiction with serial sexual abuse is good to anyone. Sorry for rushing but I'm really in a hurry. While you probably caused harm to many people, the most harm you did was to yourself, and I'm happy to know that you are recovering, I know how tough it is. Not saying that NO ONE is above rehabiliation. What I meant is: what he did and with several acusers being minor is different than how a drug addict, do we agree on that? A drug addict inflicts pain to others, but mostly himself. A serial abuser that inflicts pain to others and use that to help his craft, regardless how much rehabilition he could have, is damaging more other people than he damages himself. I don't feel like conflating drug addiction with serial abuse of minors is helpful here. It's not the same. With that said, good luck to all. And apologies if I didn't get some point across.

I've found carefully considering my opinion before spewing it to the world helps me avoid having to apologize for looking like an idiot later on

Doesn't always work but it helps

Absolutely agree with this. Every now and again I get grief for liking Dustin because I'm an atheist but whatever. I'm alwasy captivated by his songwriting, voice, interviews. He's definitely a human that I strive to be and his lyrics and writing have been a centerpiece to the relationship with my wife on multiple occasions, especially "Of Crows and Crowns" and "Juggernaut."

And now I'm listening to Carry the Fire.

So if it does come out that he was abused.

What does that change? Will that console the victims? Will it raise money for organizations that help prevent and spread awareness about sexual abuse? Will it be some giant breath through in the world of criminology and psychology?

Jesse is an absolute piece of shit for what he's done, and Vin/Brian/Garret are running out of time to make a salvagable statement. That being said, some of you are dicks
