The sic transit thing... My fiancee and I were discussing this... at times there are situations where people who develop unhealthy relationship with sex at a young age can later become abusers, its possible that his account of that situation is true and it did play a part in turning him into the monster we now know him to be, that certainly doesn't make any of that stuff easier to listen to and we will never know that answer to that.

I need to get this whole situation off of my mind. Its something where I'm constantly thinking about it and its really unhealthy.

I'm glad there are other Forensic Files fans out there. There is still some good in the world.

That's what stuck with me from the movie "Spotlight"

When they finally find and confront one of the pedophile priests, he says "Oh I fooled around with the young boys, but it was harmless.. I didn't rape them. I should know, I was raped."

I think discussions like this are good outside of this context but in the context of Jesse Lacey they can be perceived as finding an excuse and shouldn't be had.

I meant a publication. I meant we, the fans. I meant maybe even chorus.fm itself. And I make my case for that, regardless how utterly disturbing that task might be because of stuff like this:

We are not Christian Greying the abuser here, right people? The very worst and most disturbing thing we could possibly do not just for the victims, but the fans themselves is literally to romanticize this stuff. People need to understand that NO, he is not a misguided hero, we were fooled. Don't stockholm syndrome while processing this stuff, please.

That's why regardless how much horrofying penning something like this, an website like this one denouncing and opposing how fucking despicable what Lacey did matters. I know some of these usernames trying to cope with this stuff from at least 9 to 10 years ago. I know that I'm talking with sensitive and good hearted people. And yet, you are falling for the trap of romanticizing this. Don't do it.

Romanticizing someone's behavior and rationalizing it are not the same thing

People often do bad things because bad things were done to them. It doesn't excuse actions, it helps explain them.

We are talking a serial abuser here. Do you really see fan fiction of how a serial abuser did something because he was abused too in the internet? Can at least someone else see how fucked up even suggesting this is? Give me some faith in the humanity here, people.

And look, going back to my point of exposing and denouncing him as an abuser via an analysis made by people way more capable than me: I'm not pretending to know what should be done about this. I don't think there's an easy answer or a right way to do this. With that said, seeing people here falling for the trap of romanticizing or even trying to "rationalizing" (you don't rationalize why an abuser is like who he is because that gives the protagonism back to the abuser, not the victims) makes me think that something like this should be done.

The victims know that they were used for Lacey's lyrics that I refuse to call art ever again. They already feel bad for this. What I feel that needs to be done is a comprehensive way to fans understand why how infinitely wrong everything about this was. It doesn't matter whatever fucking traumas Watkins or Lacey had. We don't romanticize this stuff, period. We put the protagonism and spotlight in the survivors and explain to the fans why what happened is beyond fucked up.

I just honestly find the whole thing interesting. Jesse did some fucked up things. I have no interest in justifying them, but is interesting to look at the timelines and the stories and everything we know and kind of get a broader picture of it all. When I saw this picture of Emily with Kevin and Jesse, I realized I already knew who she was and probably have for a decade now.

Alright, I'm already very late, still have work to do and a four hours trip to make. I'll just say this:

Whenever you think it's interesting to "rationalize" or think about why Lacey did what he did and how he made a fucking living out of this, instead of thinking like a fan of the band and his lyrics, put yourself for one minute in the survivors shoes and don't say anything while you are there. Think about how they'd feel about people justifying their abusers and lyrics actions with more fan fiction about how he was probably abused too. Then you speak up.

I already said and posted here way more than I planned to. I hope everything works out and most of all, that you people don't fall for traps like this, and that others like Petrik step up to try keep people in check.

Bud, you're welcome to feel as vehemently about the topic as you wish, but neither I nor anyone else here needs to be kept in check. Step off the podium of rage and take a pragmatic look at how human beings behave.

I never thought about it until all this happened but sic transit and me vs maradona being on the same album is...weird, and well now really gross

For years I wondered why I couldn't write like this guy, write lyrics "as good" as his, and I'd be like "man, how does he get into this head space."

Pretty thankful I dont have that ability now, considering these lyrics were pretty spot on to what he was experiencing and doing. Considering what we now know, it makes me feel so silly that that was once to be desired.

"The champ goes down like a clown" is a pretty good way to describe Jesse right now.

He was an influence to so many of us, and now "clown" is a nice way to refer to him

I feel the same way about all the years I spent wishing I could be one of the cool girls/women who get invited to go on tours and do photography or sell merch and be best friends with everyone in the scene. Now I'm just afraid that my entire life could have been ruined if I ever got that chance way back when. Same thing with the film industry since I worked for a while trying to get into that behind the scenes.

There's no need to try to explain/rationalize his actions. He manipulated them and sexually exploited them. Making vague claims and theorizing about how he might have been abused and that's may have caused his disgusting behavior doesn't help anyone.

I was romanticizing Jesse’s behavior? The hell are you talking about?

It is a FACT that many victims go on to Become abusers. But not all.

And I literally said right after that Jesse indicated NOTHING about that being a thing for him. So I am not even saying it did happen.

    You are the worst.
