Ideally the rest of the band will eventually say something but demanding they do the day after it broke is weird. And demanding they control what people post online is weird, I doubt any of them read forums regularly and especially right now they're likely completely shut off while processing what to do. Maybe I'm just considering how I'd feel in their shoes and giving them the benefit of the doubt. I don't see how being hostile toward them helps right now. Like I said hopefully they say something but I'm willing to give them time before saying fuck them too.

It'd really not take much for the band to tell fans to back off. They could make a comment about how they're still taking time to process the information they have learned about a dear friend/bandmate and in the meantime while they work out what to do next *cough*hang it up *cough* request that ppl leave the accusers alone and show kindness and respect towards them during this time.

They didn’t play a single Texas show between the daisy tour and a one off in dallas in 2014 but they were also not very active in general in between

Their silence is just going to make me feel like they always knew, which is fucking terrible.

Brian, Garrett, and Vin need to speak up. Otherwise their as complacent to these crimes as a getaway driver is to a bank robbery.

If anyone is on twitter, I started a thread of female musicians / artists in our scene that deserve attention in the wake of the allegations. If anyone wants to RT / add to it, feel free:

Ok being mad they aren't speaking up is one thing but assuming that means they knew is beyond ridiculous

Yea... their silence doesn’t man they knew. But they absolutely know now, and if they are decent people, need to speak out to shut down their shit bag fans.

I understand people wanting the other band members to speak out. But I honestly don't feel like giving them the benefit of the doubt on not knowing about this or pretending that they didn't. I mean, look at John's wording on that tweet acknowledging the situation. If John would know, if the scene would know, the band certainly knew the situation with Sherman, why do we even care about what the other band mates have to say? "Yeah we knew it but didn't expect to blow it up, not like this, by the way, leave the women who stand up alone while we process this". We want them to talk so WE can feel better. That won't make those truly hurting because they are the actual survivors feel better, in my opinion.

We all know how rabid fans can be, and we all know how incredibly rabid Brand New fans are. They saying anything will make US feel better about the band, it'll make it look like not all of them are complete scumbags. Will it make a single difference for those already blaming the victims? I don't think so. Like I've said, I feel like exposing the band is the best course of action. We are treating Brand New as Brand New, when we should be treating Brand New like lostprophets, with the caveat that since it means something to so many people, those who understand and have a plataform need to make it easier for both the hardcores and casuals understand the gravity of the situation, force them to put themselves in the victims shoes and how it was right in front of us the whole time. We don't get to own the memories of what these songs meant without confronting what they are actually about for those incapable or unwilling to understand. I know I've rambled an wall of text about this two pages ago, but I feel that this is important.

We can't be selfish. Whatever the rest of the band says doesn't really matter neither will calm the hardcores and casuals. It wil help US out, it will help them save face, but will it help the survivors? I don't see how it would.

  14. No, I actually think the band saying “stop” will help. People hang on this band’s every word. It’ll also give the Reddit mods a reason to delete anything that is attacking the victims. And a lot of these kids have never had anyone tell them this is wrong, let alone anyone they respect. Using that power for some bit of good is, in my opinion, essential. The power has been used for bad up until now.

I saw people doubting the accusation suddenly shut up because of Jesse’s statement.

A statement from the other guys would have an effect on many people. Would it stop everyone? Of course not. Some people are just fucking garbage and shouldn’t be allowed on the Internet.

People want the band to speak to lessen the attacks on the VICTIMS. Being against wanting that is fucking atrocious.

I think it sends an important message about rape culture. I don't expect it all to suddenly stop amongst their fans because the band said something, but it would be a stand. And I am not saying that just cause I want to hope the rest of the band doesn't suck. I am saying it because they have the influence to do it and it's important.

The way I see it, people don't want to believe. And hell, we all saw the cesspool that is BN's facebook now. THAT we can't save. Those people I don't believe that there's a point of return. That's the kind of fan that will decide to keep supporting them if they move forward.

Now, other women that were pissed off about what happened now turning to victim blaming? Those can be reasoned with. And I honestly don't see the other bandmates having that much of an influence in anyone than well, us. The hardcores. The reasonable hardcores. If we are already convinced, what is even the point?

EDIT: And by the way, I DO THINK that they will speak out. And I believe the power of this place and this being a catalyst for them to speak out. With that said, I don't see how this makes anything better. If Lacey saying anything turned to dude bros getting his back and VICTIMS speaking out got people easily swayed to whatever they want to believe that it's the more convenient version of truth, I feel like confronting the band is better than waiting for "instructions". I could be wrong, but I don't know.

Read above (my edit). It's not even an argument. It will happen. I just don't think it'll serve to anyone but us. Those already convinced. The others will shrug it off just like they shrug it off Jesse's own confession.

    The garbage people are everywhere.

  21. And I think you’re wrong. I think using their voice to stand up will send a message, and will be heard by those currently silent but leaning, and even some of those thinking they’re online detectives. And those with the loudest voices need to make this clear. Not only is it the right thing to do, but I think those in positions of power can reach kids and fans that have probably never heard anything like this. Or don’t understand what they’re doing. I think the band has profited off this power with fans for years and now they can wield it in a positive way.

I'm glad I found out about AP/Chorus through Brand New and not Reddit. I learned a lot through everyone's posts throughout the years of me lurking and eventually posting. I'd hate the alternate universe version of myself who would give in to Reddit peer pressure and somehow got riled into fan mania. Chorus is a good home.

And I agree with you and @Kiana , I just have a pessimistic view of this. I don't see it making a difference and I'd love to be proven wrong. Yes, it'd make a stand against rape culture like Kiana pointed out previously. WITH THAT SAID, I feel like we are here waiting orders like we are absolutepunk.net waiting for Brand New to give us anything like we've been in the past, and I feel like we can do more. What gave legitimacy to the first accuser's recollection was you coming out and saying that you have friends with people that she's friends with and you believe her. THAT'S power, man.

I'm just saying that the message will come. But the times of us (and no, I'm not part of ap.net or chorus, I'm just trying to help and I'm gtfo) sitting around waiting for Brand New giving us something should be over. I know it's hard for you. I know because regardless how important this band was to me back then, it hasn't been as much important at least since 2008, unless for nostalgical reasons. They were still important up until two days ago though, and I do feel betrayed and furious (came back to put this in the past tense). With that said, what I'm trying to say is yes, they should and I think they will make statement. I'm very confident that they will make a statement. But if this place has any kind of power to be heard, wield it. For good. Call them on it. Call the fans on it.

We don't have to wait to whatever Brand New will say any longer. You are Jason Tate. People know the proximity you have with the band. I honestly didn't think you'd own it up like you did with that post. I can imagine how hard it was and obviously still is to you and everyone else here. With that said, great powers, responsibility and all that.

With that said, for now I'm out. I have to travel tomorrow and I've had less than six hours of sleep since Friday because of this thing and work.
