I did some research, not sure if from the same link of @bedwettingcosmo 's link. But rape of minors doesn't enter in the statute of limitations there. The age of consent in New York is 17. Not sure how it'd work with a civil lawsuit or if it'd be the same for the grooming, like it'd be the most easily proved.

i don't trust authorities in actually putting him away anyways and it'd probably be a horrible experience for these women having to go through the trials and getting verbally abused on the internet even more by brand new fans...

 

I'm truly sorry if that's what you mean, it wasn't what I meant at all. Basically, things had sort of calmed down and I wanted to say something positive. It truly didn't come across, and I completely get that you'd understand that. I did a very poor job expressing what I meant and that's on me.

 

I'm gonna be coy and annoying cause idk what's my business to shout out re: victims, but..... I'd def think twice before posting comments thanking ur woke faves or commending how past artists have handled things. Totally not in regard to that blink post above cause I got nothing on them but I've specifically seen some ppl praising bands that don't have their hands clean either so just like... Idk. I don't want everyone to just assume their faves all suck but like... Maybe lower the appreciation to cautiously optimistic

Lacey's situation is obviously veering serial child abuser territory from all these accounts. While I get what you say by not trusting authorities - it's not easy anywhere btw - I'm not even sure if an investigation couldn't happen. How Watkins case went down again? Was he condemned in the US?

 

Lots of bands would absolutely surprise me.

yeah, if i found out that someone in the band had done some shitty things i wouldn't be "surprised". though i'd be more than most of these other bands because they haven't been in the spotlight with fans in that way.

 

As far as "who should I choose as a new favorite band?"...

Yeah that's where I'm at. I don't assume they're all trash but I'm not rly celebrating them either cause i just don't know. I think sometimes ppl assume silence means their fave is good to go, but sometimes it just means it hasn't come out yet. I don't know any of my faves and I don't know what they do when they're not recording albums or playing on stage. I wouldn't be surprised if any of them were outed tho I'd def be disappointed. And maybe that's from being cynical and knowing lots of men and how many of them have dubious views of consent

Nothing would surprise me about anyone at this point. I don't know these people or anything about them aside from some songs (like 12-90 depending on the artist). They could be doing god knows what (for better or worse).

 

I did actually forget about them after their last album. Heh.

 

in the last year and a half, two different trans/nb band members that were an enormous influence in the queer music scene were outed as abusers. seeing another white dude go down isn't surprising, nothing shocks me at this point. i might not expect it, but i've become numb to the shock of seeing another one go down.

 

I wasn't that surprised about this tbh. Not that I'm a fucking psychic but I never got the impression Jesse was a saintly dude

 

It's not. And you are absolutely correct. I did a very poor job expressing what I was trying to say, with that said it's like I've said on that post: would I put my hand in the fire for anyone? No. But it was meant sort in the sense that I, me personally, need to have hope that everyone is like Lacey. Truly didn't mean to bring you into this and you are completely correct, not annoying or coy at all. Once again, sorry.

Stop acting holier than thou because things don't shock you anymore. Some people are still shocked and shaken up by these things. Just because you're numb doesn't mean other people need to be. If anything we shouldn't be numb because that can lead to indifference
