The way Jesse deflects to talk about cheating and his marriage like that was the problem and what people are upset about is disgusting.

Nobody cares about your marriage. You preyed and abused a 15 year old!

Pete Wentz committed statutory rape repeatedly while dating his 15 year old girlfriend (if I remember correctly he was 23ish at the time but I'm not positive). After the breakup he proceeded to write the majority of the lyrics to TTTYG about her.

This has been brought up several times over the years in comments, blogs, etc. However, to my knowledge, he has never addressed it and nobody (including this site) has ever asked him about it in an interview or reached out for comment from him. If anyone knows that he has talked about it please let me know. It's really weird to me that he's gotten a pass on it for so long.

And this Jesse Lacey shit, very sad but unfortunately very unsurprising.

Or the “It’s not supporting him if I’m still a fan of the band.”

    Except that it is.

I’ve spent too much time there telling people how incredibly wrong they are. But I would rather be the voice screaming at them than letting them all shit on the victims.

The dudes on Facebook still claiming that the burden of proof remains with anyone before condemning them is sad.

People suck. That includes a lot of people commenting here. I find it surprising that so many people are surprised when people do bad things. It’s awful, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not for us to have to understand or deal with. Burn all your Brand New stuff? Ok. Jesse Lacey isn’t just the lead dude in a band, he’s a husband and father and is likely much more concerned with how they feel than all of the “judges” on the internet.

Because he has a wife and family no one else should care that he was preying on a 15 year old girl? So Louis CK has daughters so we should just ignore that he’s a total creep and let them deal with it? Yeah no.

I think I remember this posted on APnet. The on I read about was....Martin came back to bus drunk, has/had a drinking problem, tried to make unwanted advances on a woman (you?), woman tries saying no and I remember something about woman having to grab the hair on his balding head or something to get him to stop. If that's you, sorry that happened to you. I never realized it was taken down.

When predators who have access to young girls on a daily basis for years and years are not being held accountable for their actions, being swept under the rug and being kept quiet about, it is exactly our problem to deal with. These people are dangerous to the general public. People are rightfully judging someone based on their actions and shitty response. He put himself in this situation and is suffering the consequences of doing so, which lucky enough for him at this point is only people "on the internet judging him". He's the one whose done damage to his wife and family and that's no one's fault but his own.

But it's cool that your hot take is not caring about victims or potential victims because he has a family and this is just "the internet." Apparently we suck more for condemning his actions than him soliciting nude photos from a minor.

What Jesse did was wrong. I know that I hope everyone gets that. I feel terrible for the victim/victims and hope they can heal and live a life free of that pain he caused.

He stated he has been going to therapy and all of that which is great and makes me want to believe he’s changed in the past 15 years. So to everyone here what would you want him to do from here to show he’s truly sorry about all of this? The statement comes off as a “sorry I was caught” So if you were in his position how would you go about it? Obviously start with a sincere apology to the victim and try to make things right there. But then where from there? Is there a point where you think he could gain people’s trust back? What would he have to do to gain it back and get the world’s forgiveness?

After reading the statement multiple times and thinking about other statements I've read, I don't think this one is as disingenuous as spaceys was. KS pretty much did the "I'm sorry IF I did that, must have been drunk" excuse. Jesse flatly apologizes for all the people he caused harm and pain.

I'm not saying that his statement is perfect or that forgiving him is possible, I'm just trying saying that it doesn't compare to the spacey statement to me.
