I'm sure there are a number of reasons why a statement hasn't been issued yet. The possible legal issue being one, but I also think it's probably safe to assume he's in the middle of dealing with the turmoil internally with his immediate family, not to mention with his bandmates as well. While we all would like to hear a statement, I don't think it is our right to have one, nor may it be his immediate prerogative to issue one if he's more focused on trying to figure this thing out. We can be justifiably angry about this whole thing, but let's keep our heads about this. This will not be worked out in one day, or even one week or one month. So let us empathize and support the victim and be civil to each other as we all try to work out our feelings on this as well, but let's also not act like it's our right to have statements from bandmates, associated acts, etc who are also trying to work through and figure out what is going on. These are real people, with real lives, famous or not. They are looking for answers just like all of us.

 

My biggest hope is to actually have people in general change to where this sort of thing would be abhorrent to everyone, but until that happens I will definitely take creeps leaving people alone out of fear and complete knowledge that they will be caught and face real consequences.

Also just shows again how this kind of "private" or "old" action is so toxic to absolutely everyone. There's a real butterfly effect when abuse happens and is unchecked. If the scene had been safe and she could have come forward back then and be believed and get healing from this and have him face it immediately we might have lots of other people who were hurt similarly who could have been saved from that pain, and all the poor kids who use BN to get through life wouldn't have to deal with such a hard loss that could really be damaging to their mental health and safety. He is responsible not only for the person he hurt directly years ago (who is still hurting now), but for every other person who has to be a part of this story years later. Even more so since they have played up the "savior" idea more than almost any other band, so the manipulation is at such a high level. It's just horrifying.

 

I wonder if anything would come out about All Time Low, seeing as they've been scene mainstays for 10+ years. I'd like to think that maybe they're the one band who actually haven't done anything.

 

There have been a couple comments today about them specifically. I remember something about Jack and Abigail Breslin a while ago too but I can't remember what the details of that were. Sadly I don't think anyone can be viewed as "safe" anymore.

I mean, the whole teenage bra collection thing they had going for a few years was pretty weird, but I guess that’s more of a gray area

 

I think they'll need to make a statement sooner rather than later given that there's a tour starting this week coming. They can't go on as normal to those without these allegations following them.

 

I don't know, I really don't follow anything with them closely. I just remember a thread here talking about him being involved in something inappropriate. Plus it seems more and more like "Hollywood gossip" has been totally discredited despite being our only real line to a lot of these stories years before now. I can't really write any of it off like I might have before when more and more of them prove correct.

 

This is weirdly reassuring after the last 24 hours, in a "grounding" sort of way. Ironic and most likely misplaced, given the post, but it makes me respect Matt's decision to push for band transparency about their tour sex and drug use in Unlikely Masters of Rock even more.

They still have it, but granted, they were only in their teens when that thing started (weren't they like 15 when the band started?) and now it's more of a joke with people buying bras explicitly for the shows so...

 

The sexualization of fans is something I’ve had an issue with for a while in the pop punk world. It’s rampant.

My take on this: I would like a statement sooner than later but I also would rather have a sincere, well thought out statement that takes a while to be issued than rushed, half assed, insincere one. I hope that is what is going on here.

 

This. I remember seeing a clip of Waterparks and Awsten rambling joking "I can't believe you all came to see our dick pics! I mean, idk, maybe if you met us in person you like, would wanna not... idk, are real dicks too intimidating?" and, while he was clearly joking around, (ane maybe drunk as shit) but at some point you gotta recognize when that could make your audience (primarily teen girls) uncomfortable.

They donate a dollar amount per bra to breast cancer research now I believe. It started from online joke or video or something and now people bring new them and they get donated different places. Iirc.

 

Jesus in the Bible equates looking at a woman lustfully with adultery, basically saying 'everyone is guilty of sexual sin in one way or another.' If I had to guess, given his Christian leanings, he's referring to that belief, and saying, 'if I'm gonna call out other people, then I have to cop to also calling out myself.'

The problem, as has already been said in this thread: what Jesse did isn't just 'sin.' Adultery isn't in the same category as being a predator towards children. His intention was probably in the right place, but it comes off as weird and not quite understanding the gravity of what Jesse's been accused of, and how much damage he did to children.

 

I took a little bit of a break and I have come to grips that I am denouncing Brand New as my favorite band. Instead of letting my rage flow freely on the people of earth like I used to, I will dedicate my anger to delivering kamehamehas to the faces of anyone who acts how he who I shall not name did, or defends them.
