    Shut the FFFFFFRESHFISH UP

    I feel like that’s coming from a place of people expecting that everyone associated with the band needs to speak out right away. Like many of us, those folks are probably having to process this stuff too. I do think Jesse needs to make a statement ASAP, but the other band members, KD, etc. aren’t the priority. I applaud folks like Max Bemis and Martha for being able to stand up so quickly and tweet about it, but that can’t be the blanket expectation.

    we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

    I’m curious how much the other band members knew.

    Yes, a victim took a huge risk by putting the story of what Jesse did to her out there. That’s proof enough.

    Just gonna say that Martha are a really fun indie/pop punk band that stand for some really cool things and advocate safe spaces at their gigs heavily. I saw them supporting Joyce Manor live and they're fantastic.

    Go check them out and try have some enjoyment during such a dark day.

    Not my area either, but if you really need help a local law school would likely have a student clinic that’s free or low cost.

    Now I Know This World Isn’t Spinning Just For Me Prestigious

    So I am sitting here, waiting on some car repairs, and I have just been kind of writing out my thoughts;

    Brand New was a big part of my life, a top 10 band for me for over a decade. This news from last night comes as a shock, but in our culture I am surprised it still is a shock given the recent events.

    Music is a form of heart and expression. So many of us, myself included, make music a huge part of our day to day lives. We think the world of these guys, of the art they create and the way they present themselves on stage that we tend to idolize them. Thats what makes this so hard;

    However, thts what makes what this woman did that much more a show of strength. This experience had to be traumatic, to put it lightly. She, and many others like her including some of our very own users, have been through something that many of us, especially men, cannot even begin to understand how it feels to have someonw you idolize play physical and emotional games with your body and mind. For years, not just a one time incident. But yet, she was able to find the courage to speak on such a public platform like the internet, where she will definitely draw criticism from mysoginistic people and overly desensitized anonymous assholes. But if theres that, there is a counter balance and many of us have taken her side. As we should.

    Asking questions like is there proof, did she ask for this, and anything similar is downright wrong. We cannot begin to imagine how hard this is for someone in her shoes to do, and the victim has to come first. You always hear on shows and documentaries that so many women dont report rape, assault or anything similar in nature out of the fear of the backlash from it. We cannot allow that, we need to be there for them. Women should not have to fear even further when theyve been wronged, and its a disgrace to us that they rightfully have those fears.

    Brand New and Jesse Lacey made music that we all held dear. But human deceny is more dear, and no matter who the person is in the public eye they do not get a pass on this. His silence speaks volumes, and his actions disgrace women and the music community alike.

    Anyone who is defending Jesse Lacey or demanding proof, you may want to take a check on yourself and observe who you are as a human. What if this was your mom, sister, girlfriend? What if he wasnt some huge singer in a band? Would you feel this same way? Everyone who knows me knows i am a patient person, but i will not be quiet and patient on this. And none of us should be.

    I've made the mistake of wanting bands/friends of bands accused of bad stuff to speak out immediately in the past and it isn't really fair to them. Like I'd love to know Kevin's thoughts, but he maybe just found out and needs time to get his thoughts straight or speak to Jesse about it. I don't know I just don't like grabbing pitchforks for people who weren't involved in the transgressions for not issuing statements immediately

    and a millions screams...

    I'm very worried how people are going to react to Kevin's eventual response. I think most people are going to expect him denouncing Jesse and the band explicitly and I just don't know if he will/can do that. You are talking about someone and their best friend.

    Yeah I've been thinking a lot about this. I expect he will make a statement and I expect he will be unequivocal in his condemnation. However I would not be surprised if he took the tack of "in my position I feel the best thing I can do is hold Jesse accountable and help him towards rehabilitation" or something.

    There’s something missing from all of this and something I believe plays a huge part. ADDICTION IS A DISEASE.

    I'm thinking this too. I understand that Kevin is pretty outspoken, but Jesse has been his friend before, during, and after the timeline of the allegations. Who knows how much he knew, but regardless it's a much more complicated situation from his seat than people are making it out to be.

    I can just tell you, if you really want to know, or you can keep guessing if that’s more fun.

    Yeah I'm in the group of people who was going to London but can't in good conscience now, regardless of statement or whatever...if people are up for meeting up or going to QOTSA instead I'm definitely down.

    Kevin has also been very open about how in his past he wasn't a great person either with regards to a lot of things. He may be thinking that he and Jesse have grown and changed together I don't know. I don't know what I would feel or do in a situation like this if I were him.

    Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

    This is so sad, my heart breaks for you man. Identical situation here, she toddles around the house nearly every night humming Could Never Be Heaven. She asked for "four five one" last night, all I could do was say no before retreating to the bathroom to cry. You're not alone, rest in that.

    all we have is time

    Um.. I think the idea of taking accountability and speaking out to help this not happen again is definitely important. While there's nothing he can say that will remove his actions and the implications they had on the victim(s), some sort of apology and acknowledgment is certainly crucial.
