You know after a break up when you start thinking about the other person and you can't stop and you hate that you're thinking about it because it's just hurting you even more? Well I have the chorus for In The Water stuck in my head and it feels a lot like that.

Me too. And next weekend I was supposed to go to the Brixton show for my 30th birthday! Really unsure what to do if they don’t cancel it.

 

I honestly don’t think you’ll need to worry about that. I’m almost positive that Brand New is no longer a band and that there won’t be a tour.

the more this goes on, the more i'm fearing it to be what Teebs(?) speculated yesterday on how they'd just "Brand New" it and never show up, post, tour, etc. ever again. Disappear completely.

though i remain mostly hopeful on how theyre most likely discussing with a lawyer on how to approach it. either that or unsuspecting band members/friends found out and are telling him to make a statement and he refuses.

Not making a joke

It’s also brand new so they will probably take forever to do this if they do one. My guess is there will be a lot of editing and thought put into the statement. I just want something honest and something that accepts responsibility at this point

This is an indescribable feeling to wake up to. It is no understatement to say without Brand New, I, among others, would not be here. They gave us all a musical catharsis for our insecurities, theological struggles, and mental issues on some of the worst nights of our lives, and every other day in between for so many years.

However, to think that also because of this band, someone was damaged irreversibly and had her innocence stripped by a member, is inexcusable. Manipulative intent is one thing (still bad), I have no shame now in saying that the allure of Jesse's dark lyrics were born from an internal identification with the themes explored. I'm not that person anymore. But, a 15 year old? It is SO EASY to NOT be a predator. You don't molest or harass children. That's it, full stop. So easy.

How does one reconcile memories, now concrete, and the joyful release of Science Fiction with this?

Nothing more can be said without a statement from the band, besides I hope she is healing. She found bravery, now hopefully, she can find peace.

literally if both parties consented who cares if he's an "adulterer". that's a completely different thing than soliciting nudes from a minor

Fair enough. Obviously it's shitty but I'm not particularly interested in that kind of thing as I kind of already knew and I view that as none of my business.

 

I'm meant to be seeing these in London a week today, I'm guessing they are going to have to make a statement very soon cancelling those shows.

 

We didn't need a statement for the Derrick situation as it was an internal cause of consensual relations. It was shitty, yes, but the fans weren't owned a statement. This is different. This is something that could've happened to any of us and has traumatized the life of the person who did go through it.

 

Stupidityonparad is in there standing up for the victim. At least there's that.

I have one question, which if yes or no... still Jesse/other 2000 scene leaders should have known better if so;

Do these girls/boys who want anything from people like Jesse, etc., stalk these bands in 2001-2004 underage with that upfront or with the guise of "being 18"?

I was 14 (and living in SoDak) in 2001, so I don't know... I didn't get to go to shows till 16/18 and that was mostly Jam Bands who don't get that type of blind passion/desire.
