To be honest, I would not be surprised if Jesse is an asshole. I would be surprised if he’s accused of sexual misconduct, but I guess that’s the nature of this whole thing, it’s generally pretty shocking to find out people we love have the capability of being trash.

The fb comments are really bad. First hand accounts. I’m just surprised Kevin Devine would associate himself with brand new if he knew this stuff was true and him and Jesse are as close as he says they are.

 

I think I kind of knew it was only a matter of time until an artist I love was the one who was implicated. I'm just sort of in a state of shock right now.

never be surprised when friends support abusers, kevin might not know but he also might have.

assuming all this stuff was 10+ years ago i think there's a way for things to be salvaged for him but it'll be very out of the norm of jesse to do that. i'm curious what people more in tune with accountability processes think, but if he made a statement acknowledging his past problematic behavior, apologizing to victims, and doing some sort of benefit/outreach to victims of abuse that would be a very good start. but if it comes out that he's continued doing things with no remorse to victims, well, fuck him.

maybe i'm wrong, maybe i'm being too easy, and i'm definitely not the person who should be the one to decide what is right. but...we'll see what happens.

 

These first hand accounts in the comments are really bad!

 

There are comments saying people witnessed him hitting on young girls with his baby while at coffee shops so don’t think this is a guy in his twenties not handling his fame well.

I would be absolutely shocked if he or the band ever addressed this. I guess you could argue that the band has been full of surprises this year so it's possible, but I don't see it happening. Especially since they're planning to end the band entirely by the end of next year.

 

Fucking hell. This is so gross.

 

They haven't even said what the limited vinyl is. I don't think they'll make a statement on this.

Yeah, especially given that they're effectively in the middle of winding up the band, I don't expect a statement to be forthcoming.

 

At least there's some good news today.

 

I don't want to cast aspersions on anyone here – I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume that they have the best intentions – but when we're saying how terrible this is, hopefully we all mean how terrible it is for the victims and what they went through and have apparently continued to go through because of Jesse's alleged actions and abuse. And not that it's terrible for us that our enjoyment of Brand New's music might be eliminated or diminished.

 

I'm happy you see anything with Eddie. He hasn't been playing with TBS for a minute.

 

Besides the awful first hand statements in there, Brian who was the OP, was in the Reunion Show that toured a lot with Brand New and later was Brand New's guitar tech. Eddie Reyes is in that thread. Laura Kirsch is John Nolan and Max Bemis' ex-girlfriend. That's not a "rumors" message board thread. Those are all Long Island people who have been close to Jesse. He has silently been one of the most toxic people in the scene. The reason Derrick's not in the band any more seems to finally be coming out also

Those comments were way too depressing to read. I'll go back to them when I'm ready. Man this hits hard rn. With this wave of accusations and misconduct it makes me so mad to find out that so many men are pigs. I've always had a bad feeling about Derrick's departure from the band and Geoff on the vinyl me please podcast brought it back to the forefront and now this. Fuck.

 

Damn.

 

Just listening to Pile over here hoping they are my new favorite band.

 

Was aware he was "promiscuous", so to speak, but never heard claims about them being with underage girls/him using his power to control and make women uncomfortable. Fuck that
