haha yeah, that's one of the first things I've seen people mention when installing pickups. thankfully I've got a fairly large workbench in the garage that has plenty of room for all the shit I need.

thank you! fwiw I'm installing Lollar Imperials in my LP Custom, high wound bridge and standard wind neck. Seems like Les Pauls have one of the easier wiring setups so hopefully it doesn't prove too daunting.

Think the trick with an LP style body is being able to thread the pickup cable through the body. One of the tricks I saw for doing it (somewhere on Youtube) was to de-solder the old pickup cables from the pots and then either solder some dummy wire onto the old pickup cable or even just tie a length of string to it. You can then pull the old cable through the body, pulling the wire/string with it. Once out of the body, you can disconnect it and attach the wire/string to your new pickup cable and use it to pull the hook up cable back through the body.

Hm, that's an interesting technique, I might try that. Honestly I think the thing that's always psyched me out in the past is that there's all these different steps you have to take, even though most of those steps are, individually, fairly straightforward. Shit like that tends to overwhelm me, especially when the most I've ever done is change a couple pickguards lol. I'm sure I'll be alright though.

Just take your time with it, it'll be reet.

Picked up a OBNE Haunt pedal last week. Unfortunately had to take it back because it was so obviously broken, it emitted noise that was louder than my (pristine) guitar signal.

I am now the proud owner of a OBNE Fault and I couldn't be happier. I use the 2nd gain exclusively and use my Voyager's overdrive instead. and it sounds delicious.

may I ask why you'd want to do that?

You might need to be careful doing that. My brother has one of the Mexi Nashville Teles, which I think will have a similar 6 saddle design to what you have there. He tried to replace it with a Babicz unit and found that the retro fit did not work with his guitar at all. It raised the bridge by too much, to a point where no adjustment of the neck could compensate for how tall the bridge sat. Or perhaps it was sitting much lower? I forget, but either way, be wary of the replacement.

I prefer the look of teles with that bridge but would prefer not having to buy a new telecaster. I'm also crazy.

Thanks for the heads up. It plays fine as is I was just wondering if it's an easy job. If it's a pain then I probably won't even try.

The reason I'm asking most people upgrade to a 6 way bridge because the intonation goes to shit with a 3 way bridge.
but yeah they look better, that's for sure. I have one of each.

TBH, I'm sure you can do it quite easily, you just need to be careful that the bridge you pick is a direct replacement for what is already there.

I think getting a 3-saddle bridge with compensated saddles will do the trick both with the aesthetics and intonation. But I could be wrong. Personally I love the look of 3 saddles, plus brass really helps channel that classic Tele tone as well. Not to switch gears but @jorbjorb please tell me more about that Jazzmaster. That thing is a beauty. Nothing like the sound of a p-90.

    you're absolutely correct.

except about the Jazzmaster. Those aren't p90s. haha
Common misconception don't beat yourself up about it, there's even a wikipedia article on it. It's just a weird ceramic single coil design.

Oh I know. I was tripped up by that years ago when I started learning about pickups, but in the picture @jorbjorb posted that looks like a traditional p-90. I could be wrong though.

putting actual p90s into a jazzmaster would be a master class troll move lol

guy, impressed by guitar: "wow, nice p90s"
me, knows a lot about guitar's, in a mansplaining voice: "actually, those aren't..."
guitar owner, smug: "actually I had p90s put in to fuck with jagoffs like you"

hahaha in terms of tone preferences, my taste goes p90s>vintage humbuckers>tele singles>jaguar pickups>jazzmaster pickups>modern/high output humbuckers>Strat singles

I've heard that the 3-saddle bridge provides better stability with intonation as well but I could be wrong. I just love the simplicity of them. The Jazzmaster has a lollar p-90 5% overwound pickup in it. I got the overwound version to hit the amp harder and it sounds awesome. I really wish I got a neck pickup though. I haven't had it set up in about 5 years and it still plays just as perfect as the day I got it. Definitely won't be impulse buying a custom guitar ever again though my mexican tele plays unreal as well and cost me 500 bucks 10 years ago.

    Edit:
P90 is my favourite pickup. It cleans up really well and drives well too. Best of both worlds in my opinion. I was really into offsets when I got it, not so much anymore as they're the #1 hipster guitar these days. I was inspired to get a jazzmaster with a p90 after hearing jazzmasters made by suhr and fano. Those things are unreal.

Do you have an EQ pedal? If you get a 10-band eq from say MXR for example, and keep everything flat but boost the low-end frequencies and maybe roll your tone off slightly, maybe that can help mimic the sound of a neck pickup somewhat?
