That's the one my friend told me to read next! Local library has it checked out right now, though. She definitely has a lot. Doesn't help that I also want to make my way through Stephen King's books right now as well haha.

I recently read The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. Thinking of getting into the other Cosmere world's book series. Sort of intimidated, but excited. I also have A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab on deck which I'm really excited about. I've been on a huge fantasy kick lately. I'm also slowly plodding through A Certain Point of View, the Star Wars A New Hope short stories book.

Been rereading Words of Radiance and getting HYPED AS FUCK for Oathbringer

I've gotten so much deeper into the Cosmere since WoR came out, I'm ready to dig in to every inch of that book.

I'm also still reeling from reading Secret History for the first time a few months ago.

Only one I've read is And Then There Were None but it's one of my favorites ever so I 2nd(or 3rd) that recommendation alot.

I'd like to read Orient Express eventually but probably not anytime soon. The movie looks great though

I hit the library earlier and checked out her debut novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. The library closest to me has a ton of her books and they all seem fairly short, so I have plenty to choose from and they should be quick reads, which is a plus.

I just finished Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz and I definitely recommend it for fans of Agatha Christie. It definitely pulls inspiration from her alot

Y'all are making me want to read some Agatha. I guess I'll add her to the waiting list.

    I do not exist.

I’ve read the first three of her Poirot books and then one other in the last year and they really are gems. I love those kind of mysteries. I can never predict what’s happened - even if I get one bit of info right I never work the rest out!

I was late to the party with her but considering Clue is my favorite movie of all time, her mysteries are definitely something I'm WAY into

Finally about to finish Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer. Transitions from funny to sad in a wonderful way that only Foer can do. The last 200 pages or so are all gold. My next one is a choice between One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Naked Lunch, or In the Skin of a Lion by Ondaatje. Still haven't decided yet.

Always felt Naked Lunch is one of those books that is only significant for the fact that it exists, and for no other reason.

really enjoying the audiobook of Infinite Jest - love how i can spend 10-15 minutes here or there with it and make progress. also likely helps that i've read 1/3 of it before and now i'm connecting more dots while re-reading those passages, which makes it more enjoyable and easier to digest, but it's super addicting to listen to an audiobook at the gym / on the way to work.

goddammit. another $15 a month lost!

think you inspired me to try this. are the endnotes just kinda thrown in?

no, what's interesting is the end notes are their own separate audiobook and own separate cost, which kind of sucks if you want to get them to complete the whole experience - and some endnotes are several pages in length. whenever there is an endnote a female voice will say the number, and then the male narrator continues.

i personally don't feel the endnotes added much to the novel (at least for the quarter of them that i read).

I have read the book twice and I can pretty definitively say that the endnotes do indeed matter but to each their own. If you can enjoy it without them then more power to you. It's pretty stupid that it's 2 different audio books.

Hadn't come across the book you're talking about before but having to buy the endnotes for any book separately to the main book is disgraceful in my opinion. Doesn't matter what length the book is - it should come together! Who has heard of a physical book being sold without the endnotes...?!

It's definitely a rip off. Yeah, it's like 180 pages worth of reading but still ridiculous. yeah it's only 8 bucks - but on top of a 70+ audiobook the LEAST you could do is include that shit.

What makes you say that? Just curious. I started it today and I’m only 30 pages in but it’s pretty strange in a Fear and Loathing kind of way

I personally feel it's not worth the effort to go through and untangle all of it. It never really paid off, it just felt like dribble at times even though I occasionally laughed at the really ridiculous parts. What I meant by my comment was the book, to me, is significant more for overcoming its bans for obscenity, rather than any sort of literary value I derived from it.

I feel that, though I tend to enjoy testing my patience with literature. I read The Waves by Woolf over the summer and it was nearly impossible. Basically poetry, and every once in a while a phrase would stick out and beautifully describe an otherwise indescribable feeling. I also was a lit major and am a writer, so I have a thing for writers who can phrase things in entirely original ways. Sometimes I hope the imagery leaks into my subconscious and makes me a better writer, if that makes sense. I was kinda hoping the same for this book, though I won’t mind at all if I stop midway through- got so many others on my reading list.
