Though you’ve never had an emotional response to their music? I’m not saying you have to cry, but I get pretty mushy when I hear Change of Heart,Robbers,She Lays Down etc.

Sorry guys, but I prefer the ORIGINAL Robbers. Ya know, the ROCK one with GUITARS and that wasn't just POP MUSIC like SELL OUT boy.

  7. Yep, same. The whole album is quite emotional but I lost it when I heard Somebody Else for the first time. Cried for the entire first half then let out a little giggle when he said "fuck that, get money". And when I saw them last year it was Somebody Else -> Robbers -> You and it was (sad) magic

It's definitely a huge issue here too. I'm not sure if it's something you want to delve into at all given the nature and your personal experiences of course, but there's some really insightful documentaries that Louis Theroux did a couple of years ago about varying forms of addiction in the UK that are just not focused on enough by the government and the vast demographics of people affected by addiction. Russell Brand has been focusing efforts on it a lot recently too (I only say this as he has made documentaries and written books as well - there's obviously many other non-famous people doing incredible work) and forcing the government to deal with decriminalizing addicition.

    all we have is time

Except the part where he explicitly says "I've been romanticizing heroin."

Definitely top 3 for me on the album. Doesn't necessarily "hit home" for me, but god I feel the lyrics so much empathetically. Such a well written song.

I'll write you into all of my songs Supporter

Idk feeling excited, jubilant and joyous while listening to this record is definitely an emotional response, no? Why does one need to feel sadness or a negative emotion...isn’t the flip side just as qualified?

I generally don’t ever have the intense negative or cathartic emotions that other people feel with some albums (even though I am definitively connected to the songs), but this album certainly makes me feel things

But that's at the end, not as easily caught, and it's easy to not connect it to the rest of the song.

It's the depression fetish thing at work again, probably a carry over from 90s emo I think.

Nope, I'll take the album/single version on that 100%. I like where they were heading with it, but honestly, old unpolished demos of songs don't usually do much for me. I don't find "raw" stuff like that too appealing, especially since the album version is an absolute masterpiece.

Ghosts, however, is the one "old" 1975 song that I love.

i don't like that version much but i think the live version prior to the s/t coming out was when the song was at its peak, i don't like the changes they made for the album version and how it changed live once that came out

I love how much more cathartic the "You look so cool" bit is in the demo version. Wish he would do that live more.
