Bayern need to score again, right?

  2. It's hilarious how it's being painted as Chelsea not having anything to do with the ugliness. I'm never gonna defend most of the shit Tottenham players are being vilified for, but the officiating crew and Chelsea played big parts in that mess.

No way Simeone will be on the sideline for the final, if they make it.

Tottenham were by far the worst offenders but I do agree with you, Chelsea are definitely not innocent. I blame Clatternberg the most for that mess though, totally failed to get a hand on the game by letting both teams get away with bad challenges early on and then bottled it in the second half when players should've seen red.

So retrospective on Pep's time at Bayern. What are your thoughts?

He easily won the league all three years, and if I'm not mistaken may be able to do a triple double if he wins the DFB again this year. Semis of the UCL isn't necessarily a bad thing, but compared to his time at Barca/Bayern standards, people will be upset.

Still one of the greatest managers in the game.

What a game. To go out on away goals is hard but we put on a great fight and would have deserved to advance as much as Atletico. I'm equally sad of the result and proud of the performance.

Apparently the guy Simeone hit is a member of the Atletico staff.

Pep couldn't beat the MLS all-stars and didn't shake Caleb Porter's hand, therefore he leaves Bayern in disgrace

Every time Pep has lost in the semifinals, the team that's knocked him out has gone on to win it all: Inter, Chelsea, Real, Barca... now Atleti?

Because right now he is the best referee. That penalty was the only wrong decision he had in this game. I mean we had Clattenburg in the first leg, that was way way worse.

I actually really like this rule. It makes sense and cancels out extra time in most matches. The only thing I dont like is that the away goal rule is also active if the game goes to extra time, which is bullshit.
That being said, going out on away goals is always horrible :(

He took the team to another level. Apart from the results (which were still great), the football Bayern plays under Pep is the best I have witnessed.
The only people that view everything else other than the Triple as a failure are media folks and stupid gloryhunters. The only negative thing I can say about Pep is that he rushed injured players too early into the squad and caused some additional injuries this way.

I feel like he's good for a mistake and it's always a big one, though I suppose the standard of refereeing at the minute isn't at its highest.

I'm caught on them, I think in theory it's a good idea but in practice it's horrible. Especially the extra time thing. It's supposed to encourage teams to attack when they're away but I feel it encourages defensive play at home and yeah whoever at home first has a massive advantage.

    Cheers for the insight.

As an outsider it seems he hasn't failed, nor has he excelled. But I concede I don't watch Bayern every week so I couldn't really give a proper view on your week to week games.

You have to keep in mind that we had just won the Treble when Pep took over. So he was not really able to excel when looking only at the trophies won. But from the style of play, he certainly did excel. And the results in a knock out tournament like the Champions League are also dependent on luck to a certain extend. Pep reached the semis with Bayern in all three years, something that hasn't happened in 40 years at Bayern. So jugde for yourself if it was a successful spell ;).

Still recovering from last night. Jesus. Such a tense game.

Honestly think Atletico will win this final no matter who they face. If they do, I win £70 haha.

Speaking of away goals, anybody remember a Milan derby in the Champions League semi final, in 2003 maybe?

One leg was 0-0, other was 1-1, Milan went through on away goals despite the fact that both matches were being played in the same stadium.

    I'm probably misremembering this a bit / a lot.
