Worth a shot but I was mostly kidding, I know how delicate those situations are. the price of Pro-Ject stuff in Canada is unreasonably high for some reason.

I'm definitely wanting to buy an anti-static brush and record cleaner. I've heard mixed things about the top selling one on Amazon. I probably need a tool to clean my needle as well. So many little costs adding up to care for the hobby.

I just picked up the Pro-Ject anti static brush, it's nothing special but does a good job

I went "cheap Amazon versions" of both an anti-static brush and the stylus brush cleaner.
Honestly, I've had a name brand one before and comparing them they look EXACTLY the same. I've been using both of mine for an extended period of time & they work great.

Any insight on that brush leaving fibers in the grooves? That what several of the reviews say. That's my hesitation.

  10. I want to apologize in advance because I'm sure this has been asked and answered a bunch of times, but...

What does everyone use to protect their records? And is there a replacement for the paper sleeves for the actual vinyl?

I'm going to assume you just refer to him as Subaru and that wasn't an autocorrect.

Haha yeah there's a song (Eugene) where he talks about how his swim teacher couldn't pronounce his name so he called him Subaru. Thought it was funny so I ripped it off.

I think my favorite 45 rpm's in my collection are Sunbather and Is Survived By. Those are off the top of my head, but they sound fantastic on my turntable.

One of my RSD pickups got here on Friday, just getting around to adding it to the thread. This is the first varient of a record I already own that I've bought, I'm on a slippery slope.

    Alexisonfire - Dogs Blood - Picture Disc - #430/500

I have another really cool piece I'll put up on IG next time I spin it.

This Kickstarter is definitely worth checking out for anyone looking for a simple, clean way to store/display some vinyl you spin a lot.

Do any of you have recommendations for a relatively cheap, decent quality record player? This would be my first one!

Most will say get the Audio Technica LP120 as the bare minimum quality player. That'll run you $250.

I'll recommend the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC. With buying a preamp separately, that'll run you $400 for the turntable, plus the cost of a quality preamp. I've read that the Debut Carbon is quite the upgrade from the LP120.

There are people in here much more knowledgable than I, but you just don't want to go "cheap" when playing your records, as "cheap" could ruin your vinyl.

I've never seen a fiber left behind in the grooves.
The fibers aren't miniscule, so if the brush did shed (again, I've never encountered this problem) you could easily recognize it and remove the fiber easily.

I have an Audio Technica LP 120 and can say that to get a sound I'm happy with out of it I've spent over $650 all said and done. Granted, it's been over a year and a half but it wasn't as much of a plug & play option as I thought it was going to be.
I needed to have a direct drive TT. If you want to get belt driven I think the Debut Carbon is a very wise choice.
I've also seen U-Turn Audio mentioned in the beginner, value turntable conversation.
Denon would probably be worth looking into as well for a beginners TT.

If I didn't get my "deal" on the Debut Carbon, I'd have $530 in it already.

I definitely think it'll be subjective as to what the quality of the sound is. How much money is worth getting a product to the level you want? That's the big question. I've had my setup for a few weeks now. I love it, but I'm already wanting a Speed Box and the Acrylic-It upgrades. That's adding another $300 to the cost of my set up.

Albeit, this sounds far and away better than my $30 Jensen.

Couple questions. How cheap are trying to get? How invested are you in vinyl (meaning do you already have records, or are you just interested in trying it out to see if you like it?) Just wondering because its a hobby that gets expensive fast, so if you are just dipping your toe in, you may not want to drop the kind of money to get a low/mid level full set up.
