We reach for the longest shadow

I can't even imagine, but I also have to listen to pop-punk/metalcore to get pumped if I'm running or working out.

Which song is Red Door? I have a few different live songs I got from YouTube that are titled that but have never known which one it actually is...

So in love with this and her that I’m contemplating driving up to see her in Philly on Sunday night since I don’t see her coming here before 2018.

I still think after listening to the album a few times that Sour Breath is for sure my favorite. Also, my wife just told me my pink/purple splatter came in the mail so I'm dying at work right now.

That's definitely one of her more "upbeat" songs out of her new stuff. I'm not sure if it would've worked on this album

This is how I feel tbh

I liked sprained ankle and she's clearly incredible as a lyricist/vocalist/person but none of these songs do much for me

Phoebe bridgers on the other hand

    I do not exist.

Bought the album earlier - only heard about her through this site! On the first listen I thought it was alright but now I’ve listened to it a few times there are some really beautiful and moving parts. It’s an album that demands your attention - you need to hear the lyrics and allow yourself to feel what’s going on.

So yes, a very good album from an obviously talented artist. I’m looking forward to finding out if this becomes a great album as I listen over the next few months.

i respect everything julien does but the way she talks about the struggles is just very different than the way i feel. all of the metaphors about and relationships with god/religion and stuff just wash over me, from people i've talked about today that stuff radiates very strongly with them so they're obviously very meaningful lyrics but i prefer the broader strokes phoebe paints with her narrative

While I don’t agree with it, this is a good post. Really goes into detail why you connect with one over the other. I could say that for me phoebe actually hit me harder lyrically at times as well, but I prefer the instrumentation/vocal melodies on this album. Just when she hits those big moments I get these insane chills that give me goosebumps. I also just love her guitar tones on here/ also the piano playing is really well done.

in all seriousness, I enjoy this album, but I think I was a bit disappointed. I really like a good amount of the tracks on it but idk, I'll articulate this further upon more listens but I think I was hoping for something "more" than what I got.

It's still really good! But I think I thought it was gonna be one of THOSE albums for me, and I don't really think it is.

but who knows my expectations could have been too high

Lol I doubt they care. It’s sort of like how we compare Manchester and brand new, they sort of are contemporaries of one another. I think it’s important to note that while people are saying they prefer one over the other it’s really cool that most people enjoy both. Also it’s good for the artists, Julien fans check out phoebe and phoebe fans check out Julien. Win win
