My biggest thing about the Asuka debut is that both matches were very similar stories with the same payoff. Emma dominated the match, albeit with some different moves, but Asuka couldnt get much momentum going until near the very end, and she won both matches with the Asuka lock. I think that something as simple as Asuka kicking Emma in the head in either one of the matches and knocking her out would change everyones opinion about it

 

A Bayley/Asuka barn-burner in the style of Nak/Sami would also have been great.

Only good thing WWE did was not go monumentally stupid and have Emma win on a roll-up

 

It's for sure weird, bordering on nonsensical. Emma is a kayfabe jobber. Asuka is the kayfabe goat. What about those two facts made the way that match was booked look well done?

You can have all these side arguments about "Oh well, it shouldn't have been Emma" or "Oh well, it shouldn't have been a squashable opponent in the first place." But I mean, if we step outside fantasy booking land, what they did with what had been set up... it was a terribly botched way to introduce one of their most promising women.

Meltzer gave WALTER/Zack Sabre Jr 5 stars from PWG ASW this past weekend. So fucking happy for WALTER to be getting the exposure in this country. Dude is the European Chris Hero.

It'll be starting any week now. I'm gonna have distinct lists for my family members cause that's pretty much all I can think to ask for.

 

I just found a torrenting site for wrestling shows and have been watching a shit ton of old PWG stuff. Goddamn is it a fresh breath of air.

 

how far back are you watching?

 

So far, I've caught up with BOLA 16 & 15. Just watched the last show with Chuck T winning the title. Also just downloaded Steen Wolf from 2011 which has Steen/Generico for the title in a ladder match.

 

yeah i started at 2011 and really the streak of great shows starts there and never ends. i haven't really watched any pre-reseda stuff

 

I grabbed a "Best 25 matches of PWG" torrent, and there is some epic stuff in 2011-12

 

I grabbed a torrent a year or so ago that has every BOLA through 2014 on it and also have a torrent of the DDT that Best Friends won.

 

I've also been picking up some Progress shows too. Watched Chapter 55 and 54.

 

A while back I bought some of the PWG anthologies that cover 2006-2008 just because they were pretty cheap (I think it was 10 shows for $35?). It's def fun to see the early stages of some of these guys careers and there are still fun matches, but it's a lot different than what PWG came to be. The lighting especially can be a big deterrent. It's so dark. And some of the undercard matches are not the greatest, but the ones with notable names are just as good as they are now.

 

They should absolutely do another DDT now. So many great tag teams the tourney would be stacked:

god, chuck taylor is pwg. his losing streak angle from years ago til today is all just such a great stretch for him and he's one of the only legacy pwg guys the crowd has never turned on

 

i actually picked one of these up too, one of the "sold out" comps with a lot of danielson/generico/etc. the one i most remember was danielson v. generico in some bar in germany lol. def cool to see it's roots

 

Going through my physical collection I seem to just have a lot of everyone's last's shows at PWG. El Generico's is probably my favorite. That last DDT4 run with Steen was so great and the post match promo was the best.

I thought the cruiserweight tag match was a lot of fun and that it would get a little higher rating. Although I guess it did still technically get the third highest rating of the night.

 

That's about what I expected from him, might not agree with the actual scores but it does roughly follow the order of how I thought the matches went.
