As I’ve seen/observed before, this will/has lead to FBR losing potential sales which then leads to either dropping/losing artists and then FBR eventually goes the way of dinosaur like all the greats before? Idk, it just seems crazy that technology has made it very easy, cheap, (even free) to market to masses. It seems like They have the resources and they haven’t used them to their fullest potential on any big release this year. What are they doing/waiting for?

To be fair, they do have quite a few music videos out, whatever that counts for.

yeah, but in the past FBR has been guilty of promising things and not delivering, which isn't cool even if it is their decision to allocate resources. They've been a shadow label for a long time now, I honestly wonder when Atlantic will just fold it in.

FBR spent all their money on Twenty One Pilots.

which turned out to be a pretty damn good investment, huh!

I was being facetious. I personally love Twenty One Pilots and have since way before they were on FBR. I also haven't blamed FBR for the poor reception/marketing for Going Grey once.

On a side note...seeing them tonight. VERY pumped.

  8. The idea that FBR is in any way “dropping the ball” this year is a severe misreading of the situation

I feel like this album will be getting a big push post-release. For a band like the Front Bottoms who have a pretty solid fan base to begin with (but have plenty of room to grow beyond that as well), there's probably some value in releasing it and seeing how it fares first week out, how the current tour sells, etc.

And THEN from there, marketing the record to people who might not already be aware.

Putting this out there largely because I'm pretty sure "Peace Sign" was only released to radio like, what? Two weeks ago or something like that?

paramore sold significantly less than the s/t even after coming off their biggest hit yet. ATL charted the lowest they have in ten years, coming off probably their most popular record, selling half as many records despite being on a label with a much larger hit making ability (hopeless vs FBR)

    this is a trend

Paramore is a unique situation where they deliberately wanted a quick rollout without tons of interviews or promo. It was talked about a TON in the album thread.

Last Young Renegade might be the "most popular record" on Chorus, or... somewhere?I've never thought that was even remotely close to a popular opinion.... but the singles didn't do well, and most of the general public who used to be casual ATL fans don't care anymore, they just don't have the same popularity they used to.

    Also, the album sucks.

  12. You’re looking at a single outdated metric. Album sales are going by the wayside for artists who aren’t in the top 1% of sellers. Having a high-charting album doesn’t mean nearly as much as it used to when it comes to an artist’s paycheck, especially for smaller artists in niches like TFB. FBR absolutely did not sign TFB, Basement, or SWMRS with the idea that they’d sell a lot of albums, and Paramore’s rollout was explicitly low key per Hayley’s request.

That might be cause their album fucking sucks.

i meant it as their last one not LYR. the record before was easily the biggest they've done in the general sphere.

you guys aren't the target fanbase, your opinions of the album don't mean much regarding the general reaction of it

but that's an overall industry wide change, not just for a few bands. the fact the dropoff was abnormally large from the artists' last release is very telling

What even is their target fanbase though? Serious question. It seems to have had a fairly mixed reaction, and I'm not sure they appeal to younger kids anymore.

Re-reading your post, I getcha now, and honestly even as well received as Future Hearts was, I still wouldn't call it their biggest record, that seeems very obviously to be Nothing Personal....

Hearts: Zero hit singles, but best single week sales for the band. Certified silver on RIAA.

NP: "Weightless" is certified Gold and "Damned" charted on the Hot 100, their only song ever to chart. Album has been cerfied Gold by BPI and RIAA.

I feel like maybe you don't quite remember how much of a phenomenon the bad was during 2009-2011 time range, they were at the top of the world

I definitely remember those times, that was my peak scene kid era haha. Maybe not their overall peak but the last record really reenergized their fan base, my sister (who only know them through dear Maria and me) and her friends got super into them last record

Nothing Personal might have been huge in the warped tour/scene kid realm but the last one felt bigger to those who aren’t in any sort of counterculture

I think These bands should take The Maine route and do shit on their own terms, I actually think they and the fans could and would benefit from it more and be a lot happier, this is assuming they aren’t happy, or even a year or so from now

I guess a lot of it could be personal connection, and frankly I'm 5 years older than you so that could be a bit ha. The two albums certainly feel like the TWO peaks of the band overall. I just never heard a single peep about the band or album surrounding Future Hearts, except on AP.net, and that's not really an exaggeration ha.

  23. It’s really not telling of anything other than the fact that FBR as a label has stopped prioritizing chart positions and FWS figures.

This is probably the real truth. Say TFB opened with 15k. We'd all be impressed but that extra 60k split between the label and band and who knows who else will ultimately be pretty meaningless.

What matters is touring and fan reception and all accounts seem to indicate this tour is a big success in both of those factors. 2nd week sales for a band like this will drop to next to nothing either way.

This has probably been mentioned but I didn't expect the two little bonus tracks on the vinyl. I like how they flow though
