Matt and Fred got along fine. In the oral history they did with AP, Mark said he threw a Fred Quit party because of how much he hated him.

The ending of "You're So Last Summer" is such a fun moment.

Also, for years I hadn't picked up on the "If only you knew half as much as you pretend to" part, during the ending, and now I always love hearing it. Great damn song. It's always funny when you listen to something for such a long time, then out of nowhere you pick up something new from it.

Edit: Totally missed an opportunity to say "then out of nowhere you pick up something new from it then it becomes... new again." Dammit.

the oral history of tbs covers a lot of this. it was in AP awhile back.

Fred apparently caused a lot of divide in the band because he was happy with writing the whole album and just having everyone play on it from what i remember. became a money thing, etc, etc. also, because Fred and Rubano were very music savvy (classically trained, etc) Eddie and Mark lost a lot of arguments because of it which caused a ton of tension.

Fazzi and Rubano were just unfortunate losses because of the reunion. most of the band wasn't happy and Mark really wanted John / Shaun back in the band. at the time all parties involved probably said some things about each other that they probably shouldn't but from time to time Fazzi will still post some TBS stuff on IG and FB and i've seen him comment on Eddie's stuff from time to time so it doesn't seem all so bad. I always thought it would be cool if Fazzi was kept on as a touring guitarist at the time but Nathan rules too!

also, I always thought stylistically Fazzi / Nolan woulda wrote some cool tunes. between some of the Straylight stuff and Rare Futures / HBSB there woulda been some really cool sounds.

the oral history is a pretty great read. I don't think Fazzi was ousted specifically because of the reunion, IIRC he did not get along well with Adam and would openly criticize his singing abilities, and I remember reading that he and Rubano made executive decisions on recording during the NA sessions without necessarily consulting other band members, like they completely re-recorded some of Marks drum parts without telling him or asking him.

I don't think another record would have been made with Fazzi either way, but once Fazzi was out I dont think Rubano stood a chance (10/10 on the pun).

They had a stage guitarist Izzy for a while who was a real cool guy but I believe was sort of a package deal with Fazzi.

There was also a pretty big falling out between TBS and Envy on the Coast that I was always interested to find out more about, because for a while they would constantly tour together, and I know Izzy, Fazzi, and Ryan from Envy still do things together from time to time, Fazzi even drummed for Envy for a while.

    TBS knows drama.

Wasn't the whole reason Fred joined TBS in the first place was because he needed money for a health issue involving a family member? (his wife, maybe?)

I believe that is accurate, and I think the money issues were involving the way they were splitting royalties.

I think one of my favorite parts of the oral history was a mark quote, he said something along the lines of "i remember doing the cover story for AP in 2009 right before new again came out, and we were all saying how happy we were with the new lineup and how great everything was.....and we were all lying so much."

Regardless of whose fault and how poorly Fred and TBS both handled the split, all of my favorite work of theirs comes from that line-up. I miss it.

not sure why (and I hope I'm wrong), but I have a weird feeling TW is gonna be the last thing we get from them for a while. Adams about to have his 3rd kid, the seeming uncertainty with the Eddie situation, they may not have addressed it because maybe they're not sure what the future is.

    sad post.

also did they ever advise why their big island getaway festival was canned? they said "another good opportunity" came up, but never really got any more detailed on it.

I'd bet Eddie is done. It's one thing to miss shows/tours but he's not even promoting TBS anymore on social media, I believe. At least not on Twitter. The silence from the band is suspicous as well.
He is the founding member of the band so should be interesting.

i'd argue the opposite. in just about every interview i've ever heard the band does nothing but speak highly of eddie.

if he was truly done they would have done something to send him off. he's probably going through some personal things and will eventually get back out there. he's been pretty active on Facebook again on his personal page and hasn't said a thing about it.

The Stryder! You are the first person to have ever acknowledged that band in my life besides the friend that showed me that album like 7 years ago. Awesome

Edit: just realized I quoted you but my response is entirely about your avatar haha.

I don't recall any recent interviews where Eddie is even discussed. And if he was, I'm sure they would speak highly of them. I never said I thought there was animosity between them, I just personally think he's done. Due to the band's flaky history of members leaving, perhaps they just don't want to talk about it yet.

I'm guessing they got absolutely no interest from fans on it. I remember the TBS thread when it was initially announced and pretty much everyone agreed it was a really bad idea and that they aren't big enough or popular enough anymore to pull it off. When the tickets went on sale to the public, they only retweeted like 4 people who bought tickets and I did a Twitter search looking for people who bought tickets or were interested in it and couldn't find many results at all. My guess is they wanted to reach a minimum amount of sales in the first few days to make it worth it and were far off those numbers.
