I think love and empathy come into play AFTER someone has admitted wrong doing and has taken action to make things right. But if they are unrepentant and deny it? Fuck those dickheads. They get anything they deserve. Love to those people, in that context, only enables them to do those same horrible actions again.

yea i mean it goes into psychology but shaming someone doesn't actually create the opportunity for change, just makes things worse. obviously remove them from society and positions where they can hurt others, but not out of some hateful retribution because every human is trying their best. then create opportunities for healing and rehabilitation.

but on smaller personal scale (which is mostly what i was originally talking about), i find that when i want to attack others and shame them it says more about my own issues and it diminishes my own happiness in life. i was more pointing out that negative reactive energy that's a part of our culture and that i see everywhere (including in myself).

Feel free to use that speech when you get the biggest pumpkin at your local Pumpkin Harvest Contest coming up, but in the real world where context matters it’s important to understand that this issue hasn’t been addressed, it was brushed aside, and it’s a pretty big stain on already botched track record for this band.

The only point I will agree with is that people who commit any sort of abuse often do have behaviors that stem from deep psychological issues... and some were victims of abuse themselves.

HOWEVER, people like that only start to get any sort of understanding from me if they admit and own up to the horrible things they’ve done, and attempt to right their wrongs in any way they possibly can. Only then are they deserving of any compassion imo.

I in absolutely no way view humanity as people “trying their best”. That’s total hippie bullshit. Wake up.

yea totally agree with you on it staining their track record for sure. i was really just using this specific instance to talk about shame culture, which as i've said wasn't the best place

didnt i straight up say that i feel like people can be forgiven but they have to actually acknowledge and using their actions show they're a better person?

Then why do you insist on arguing and why would you pick such a tonedeaf opportunity to get on a high horse and call people “self righteous”

yea and i agreed with you. honestly isn't about you it more just the general vibe of the thread previously coupled with my desire to put some thoughts out there

Shaming is a necessary tool in this day and age. Public shaming and support for the victims is the only reason Harvey Weinstein isn't getting away with his crimes anymore.

Your thoughts are foolish as they lack key context and are based upon some silly ideas.

yea i've said previously this wasn't the best place to put those ideas out. they just kinda spilled onto the forum and it spiraled out from there.

"they kinda spilled onto them" you actively decided to say this

that's the same problem with abusers, they don't blame themselves for their actions. i'm not trying to compare you to an abuser but, jesus, people need to fucking take responsibility for shit that they do

dude i obviously take responsibility that this was a bad venue to talk about shame, and that is was a result to my desire to get my ideas heard. i really just want to put some good shit out there, didn't think it'd take this kind of a turn.

i'm not trying to be right, just wanted to put some positive thoughts out there with my writing

When your views are bullshit, you’re not putting “some good shit out there.”

Why won’t you reply to me?

Nonsensical world views are not positive thoughts.

I don’t understand this thought process at all. You weren’t being positive, you were insulting those that take these issues seriously and seek to hold those responsible to task while simultaneously throwing out empty platitudes and insisting you’re just trying to make things positive. Theres nothing positive to glean from this instance. There’s no point in trying to be some beacon of positivity when shit like this comes to light. It’s also really counterintuitive to diminish those that are trying to legitimately make this scene and the world a little bit better while getting on your soapbox to try and spread some faux positivity to benefit yourself

this hateful attacking energy was kinda what i was pointing out. said it was the wrong place to put the ideas into the world, but i really had nothing but good intentions. you don't have to believe that, but that's fine
