  3. Once Greg left and they turned Rebecca into a bumbling self-sabatoging moron, everyone I knew bailed on it. It was painfully unfunny to watch someone be that self-destructive and after the election, it wasn't escapism, it was just watching someone make illogical decisions over and over again. (And I'm definitely not the only person who thinks that .. it's the worst rated show on TV now.)

Nah, I saw that one, we bailed after that.

it's almost like mental illness makes someone make unhealthy decisions? which is a very key part of the show's entire existence?

how is brooklyn 99 and new girl so low on that list?

Brooklyn 99 is awesome, and new girl is pretty solid.

  7. New Girl also got really bad. HIMYM level bad.

B99 did well for a while, but it's kinda fallen off. "The Good Place" is killing it though.

in the first episode she has a breakdown then she throws her pills down the drain and decides to spontaneously move after a boy she hasn't seen in a long time? the whole show is based around that how she needs to learn how to look after herself and self-care

I thought that new girl stayed pretty decent. sitcoms usually fall off after 5+ seasons though so I guess I just accepted a drop in some of the quality.

    brooklyn 99 is still great.

good place is really good we'll see how long they can keep the quality up on that.

  10. I think it's weird you call this a mental illness. The whole show is based around how she doesn't look after herself because she only cares about herself, if they lead her to finally doing that, great, but they didn't when I was watching ... and playing that kind of thing for "laughs," I don't think worked. Based on how few people watch the show, I don't think I'm alone in that assessment.

  11. I think I bailed on that after season 3? I don't remember. I tried again to watch some of the newer episodes and hated it.

Eh, it's alright. I wouldn't call it great. Their lack of a solid, binding, overarching story has kinda hurt the show IMO.

it is mental illness though? why was she prescribed pills? why is there a whole arc based around her and her therapist?

i don't see how they play that aspect for laughs at all, i compare it to bojack in that regard. later it the season it approaches more to do with her family aspects as well which helps assert the childhood trauma and mental illness part further

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom on New Suburbia, Depression, and How One Comes to Be ‘Crazy’

older article from before the season but still has good points

I think that new girl's building of the overarching story kind of hurt that show. I think it's just too predictable I guess. I still like it. I think this is the last season maybe? I rewatched all of it like a month ago and thought it was still good.

I kind of like that brooklyn 99 is like a comedy version of a cop show, you don't really need to watch every episode to know what's going on. they'll string an arc for 3-5 eps and move on.

bunch of other things that i don't want to reveal due to spoilers but yes, mental illness is absolutely 100% the overarching struggle of the show

I think he's really handsome and seems like more of a suave Reggie as compared to the more physically intimidating Reggie from season one.

He was only onscreen for like 30 seconds this episode, so it's too soon to tell for sure how he'll do, but I have faith in the casting for this show.

Reggie's feud with Archie is an essential part of the comics for me, so I really hope we see a lot of him.

  16. Lots of people take pills, and go to therapy, for things that are not categorized as "mental illness" Casey. I'm done talking about this with you.

there's literally a part at the end of season 2 that explicitly says it's mental illness

also jeez, you're speaking to me like i haven't seen a therapist and been on medication for anxiety and depression and other things for most of my life. i know these things.

  21. Yeah, I think that's why by and large I don't like network sitcoms. I don't watch much of those "check in on a random episode" thing. I don't watch TV in that way, I never turn on and just browse TV, I sit down to specifically watch. Also, I think with everything going on in the world it's been hard to watch a "cop" show while every day on TV cops are killing people. I dunno, I just don't turn to it much anymore.

RE: New Girl, shrug, I feel like I have too much other great stuff on my plate to go back to things I am pretty certain I actively dislike.
