I get where he's coming from; You've moved on from wanting to be in a touring band, and you have other interests you want to pursue....Great!

But on the other hand, if you were still capable of writing good songs, you wouldn't have to just play the ones that were 20 years old. And also, quit introducing yourself as "Tom from the band blink-182" if you're going to go in the comments and say how dumb the idea of being in a band is lol

While I agree that Blink definitely needs to change up their set list, pretty much every artist whose lucky enough to be touring 20+ years into their career is going to be playing songs from when they first started whether they change up the set list or not. Making that "dig" was incredibly pointless.

I can see getting bored with it. I think the complaint is valid if he's saying being in (any) band in his 40s is just not how he wants to spend his time, but yeah, if he means blink is a "legacy act" like he usually says....then yeah that's stupid.

Blink is a legacy act though

I don't even think that term actually means anything - but using it as some kind of derogatory term is what is stupid. They have old songs that are popular, yes.

I didn't mean it in a negative way, just as an observation. Yes, California regenerated interest in them but I saw them twice on that tour and the crowd really only knew Bored to Death from the newer material

Crowd didn't know Violence either though so they're whack

I feel like that changed the longer the album was out. When I saw them in Nashville the new material went over very well.

Gang vocals on No Future + Pit crowd= Sublime

Yeah I don't understand what that legacy term even means either or why people think blink is one but to each their own I guess. When I think of a legacy act I think of musicians that just tour off of their "greatest hits" and don't put out new music anymore but that's just me.

That's what it means to me. Blink could play longer, and change up more songs but whenever I search them on IG when they're playing, virtually the only songs people record are WMAA, ATST, First Date and I Miss You. As much as most of us could stand a show without those songs, they have to play them

Right and you can say that about tons of other bands too it's not like blink is the only band that doesn't really change up the set list and play their big hits all the time. If that's the biggest knock on them in terms of being viewed as a legacy band then I guess I still don't get it.

On the flip side imagine seeing them for the first time live and they don't play WMAA or Dammit, you'd be super bummed. So I get why they do it.

That's not the biggest reason. The biggest reason is they are a nostalgia band, simple as that. When people think of that time period, they think of blink.

You can say that about any band you liked growing up though. When I think of the mid 90s, for example, I think of Green Day. I wouldn't call them a legacy or nostalgia band.

Agreed by that logic Eminem is a nostalgia act too, when I think of the late 90s I think of his early work

When I think of nostalgia acts/bands the first ones that pop into my mind are New Kids on the Block/Backstreet Boys.

So he didn't want to play the same songs, but didn't want to write new songs with them? Got it.

And there's nothing wrong with being a legacy act.

I'd call both those counter examples nostalgia acts, too

Picture them play Fentoozler as a ,,joke" in 2018 and then bunch of YouTube videos with ,,OMG BLINK PLAY NEW SONG LIVE" haha

I definitely agree with both of these! But my point was more that I fundamentally disagree with how Tom uses that term. Yeah, ok, blink's heyday was a long time ago and a lot of people are still into them for nostalgic reasons yet they've still managed to generate a lot of interest with new material... That's pretty normal for big bands like that.

What I don't like is how Tom kind of generated that term as a backhanded compliment. He makes it sound like blink is a "legendary" band which he eats up and takes credit for, but at the same time, he will put them down and act like he is above them or too "progressive" for blink, now. "MY part of the band was legendary, but THEIR part of the band is beneath me". haha.

Regarding Tom, I am gonna say the same thing I said in the article thread. Dude, first off, haven't you heard the phrase "show don't tell"? It's a staple phrase in story telling, script writing, but it applies to this. All we have so far is TALK of what we'll see. If you want to pursue technology and aliens, stuff that World experts inside and outside the government haven't e been able to do, then by all means try but SHOW US SOMETHING besides promises(which you aren't known to fulfill usually). I bet you if he did this announcement with SOMETHING to show besides 'historical fiction stories' as he puts it, more people would buy shares to your company despite the shady structure you have. Also, dude you are worth millions. Front that $1M yourself until you have something tangible instead of expecting your fans to invest on something that could go nowhere, and probably will from the evidence we have seen so far since he's failed to show anything but 'promises of what's to come'

    Holy shit done ranting
