I remember listening to the first Silver Torches album and really enjoying it but their newest is REALLY good.

Very excited to see them now. Although I still wish it was Bridgers.

Unfortunately I am not going to be in town. :tear:

I really like the new Silver Torches record. Listened to it for the first time on Tuesday and it was a huge, pleasant surprise. The last one was good, but felt kind of like a War on Drugs ripoff. This feels deeper and more genuine.

I'm fine with you missing out on one of the best records of the year, and his career. I have it, love it, and have great gains from it. Your loss.

I'm in agreement that this is good music but I'm blown away that people already think this is his best work. For me no songs on here touch "Liberator", "First Defeat", "Halo" or "Slow Dancer", not even close yet.

Just because there are better tracks out there on different albums, doesn't mean this album can't be his best work.

It's settled pretty firmly at the bottom for me, spinning all three on vinyl in the past few weeks. There are some growing pains here, but some real promise. I think the next record will realize some of these sounds more fully.

I think this album was needed after the last two (great albums).

I think a departure was needed. I think he could have made a more focused version of this.

I've only listened a couple times, but the one that caught me was "I Can't Lie." Reminded me a bit of "Summons" from the last Field Report album.

Speaking of, where the hell is the new Field Report album.

And yeah... this is my least favorite of his but I still adore it and listen to it daily.

It was never a daily rotation album for me, where the last two were "several times a day" albums for a few weeks at least. This one is probably down to once a week already.

    I think God's a painter

unpopular opinion but after some time this is my biggest disappointment of the year. i don't think i'd have a problem with the sonic experimentation if the songwriting was anywhere near the level of ledges/ctg.

he kinda got sucked into the lyrical style of vague abstract metaphors to cater to the vibe of the music, which some people like but is the opposite of what i enjoy. where are the stories? where's the intimacy?

hopefully this is a transition record and the next one can do cool shit with the production and sound while still maintaining what i love about noah's earlier stuff. rein it in.

but i'll probably never go back to this aside from a few songs. like this record just dropped out of rotation so quickly, which kinda bummed me out but artists have gotta go with whatever comes out of the ether and i'm looking forward to where he goes next

I've got the demo cd. They're unmixed self recordings from Noah (or it sounds that way to me). Mostly piano versions. For example, that early video on YouTube of "Number One Hit" where he played it live on a piano much slower...well that's what's on the demo. It's cool to have. It literally came on a burnt CD-R with the songs written on the disc with permanent marker like a middle school mixtape lol

Also, I just got my copy of God Don't Talk To Strangers/Lady Of The Ocean 7" vinyl. They both sound like they couldn't fit somewhere between "Ledges" and "Carry The Ghost". They're honestly fantastic. Maybe my favorite two songs from this new batch
