not a bad team at all. Peru is a good team too. they'll be fun at the WC and might make the knockout stages - short competitions allow for such surprises. it's just not comparable how much worse Chile had it.

 

On a real note, the development system for young players in this country needs to change if they want to make a real difference going forward. It is too expensive for kids to get in the right environment to succeed and get noticed. And US Soccer needs to stop relying on the kids on their youth teams because obviously there needs to be some changes there as well, for both the men and women's sides. Of course, they find great players but there are always going to be kids that fall through the cracks because they can't afford it.

 

Lol tho at fox sports spending all that money for Americans to not watch the 2018 Cup

 

If we don’t emulate what Germany did in 2002 (if you haven’t seen Twellman’s
Sports center rant about tonight yet he talks about this), it’ll be very bad for this reason.

Our U-17s look promising in that World Cup right now. But we need a lot more talent at that age than we have.

Simple version is we don’t have a good youth structure at all for the kids who do want to play AND pretty much most of our best athletes play football and basketball.

Yeah that's what I've seen. But definitely, both sides really need to makes changes. The U17's didn't make out of the group stage and the U20's (a team that had Mallory Pugh and Ashley Sanchez) underwhelmed in the group stage and then lost in the semi for their respective WCs last year.

 

Yeah maybe we will get some actual development over the next few years instead of trotting out the washed up players from 2009

Gulati and Arenas obviously need to be shown the door but who knows

Easily. Chile were up against the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Uruguay, Peru, etc for the spots tonight. USA failed to qualify against Trinidad & Tobago, Honduras, Panama, etc, plus obviously Mexico.

 

Still, use this as a platform to build upon. Get rid of your manager, and start focusing on youth players. Yedlin, Pusilic, Brooks, Wood, and then bring in youth players. You have four years until the next World Cup, but you need to focus even longer. You should qualify next time purely through not having a moron manager and coaching team.
