    :blush::heart:

Wow!!!! This means so so much to me, considering I’ve respected your musical talent for years now (and have greatly anticipated that dang Terrain album as well >-p). Like, seriously, I’m so glad you like it at all, let alone to the extent you’re expressing!! Ahhh.

Okay, I’m about to get mushy and long-winded here, so be warned:

It’s seriously so great to see how many people have positively responded to these songs so far (as well as some who’ve heard the whole album). Like, I seriously poured so much of myself into this record and after we finished recording it I felt like I had finally recorded *the album* that I was always trying to make. It felt extremely validating to me to feel that way about something, as I’ve been making music (most of which no one’s heard) for nearly a decade now. I have seriously never been more proud of anything I’ve had a hand in making.

Over the past few months, the more I sat on it, the more I began to stress about it. That high I felt after recording it dulled each time a label that we sent it to turned it down, or didn’t get back to us altogether, and I began to really question whether or not I was crazy for thinking this was worth the amount of pride and energy I’d invested in it. I know that I probably shouldn’t put that much weight in those kinds of things, but it’s tough sometimes bc it can sometimes feel like no one’s in your corner and that your hard work is going unrecognized. So seeing people I respect, and with whom I’ve loved sharing space in this particular community over the years, express such positivity is incredible.

I’ve known for a while this record wouldn’t be for everyone, we pretty much set out to challenge what people thought about us as a band on every level— from the production choices to the more intricate songwriting and instrumentation. We made something raw and honest, sometimes to a fault; no click tracks, no vocal editing or processing (any reverb is captured by room mics), it sounds about as close to being in the room with us as we could possibly get it to imo. There are things I would probably do differently, for sure, but we only had 4 days of studio time and a relatively small budget to work with, and I’m kind of glad we didn’t have more time to overthink things because we might have lost the “lightning in a bottle” energy I think we captured.

So yeah, thank you all for even listening at all, that means so much to me alone and to know y’all like what you’re hearing on top of that is like icing on the cake lol. Hopefully the album is able to live up to whatever expectations you may have.

I'll echo that. I've known Brett for about 10 years now, and this is the album I always wanted to hear from him.

It's also the best I've heard of Audrey and Vince.

This album is just a 10/10

yeah, brett's voice was something that took me time to get used to but i feel like this is by far his best vocal performance while not really changing his approach if that makes sense. everyone in the band is firing on all cylinders here for sure, it's crazy that this is so much better than cozy body, an already great record

I'm not gonna listen to any of the pre release tracks tbh. Want to hear the full thing in one go.

Honestly, this is the best way to go about it imo. As much as I do want people to check the songs out and get hyped on the record I do, at the same time, wish people could just go in with absolutely no idea what they’re getting into or preconceptions. We actually had a hard time deciding what songs to premiere from this because nothing felt right out of album context to us haha, I still probably would have picked entirely different tracks to premiere if it were up to me.
Yes, please. It’s definitely a cliche, but I think they’re necessary to get the full scope of the album.
There was a bit of a different approach, but mostly nothing that anyone who wasn’t there making the album would really ever know (aside from, like, the production of them which I’d say is probably not what you’re speaking on). Basically, Brett had no set melodies for any of these songs, with a couple small exceptions, and essentially freestyled 90% of the record as he recorded it lol. For Cozy Body, Brett wrote most of the songs before bringing them to us, so he had the melodies in place for those; the writing for this record was more collaborative, and the only track that Brett brought to the band fully finished was the title-track. It was probably the most anxiety-inducing aspect of making the record for me, considering we didn’t record vocals until the last day lol.

fwiw, let's talk about us. was a great choice for single imo, definitely got me hyped and it being the first track of the album, i don't think it's a risk at all.

what the fuck what was the thought process behind that??? i am flabbergasted that it came out as great as it did with only one day of recording. are there different vocal takes for songs that are completely different then? the wide open vocal melodies really fit in with the lyrical content though, he definitely pulled it off. did you all collaborate on the lyrics as well?

also can you talk about the cover art? i don't know what it is but for some reason it reminds me of the night i saw mineral girls at the milestone, reminds me of the parking lot outside specifically

    Okay gonna address this point-by-point:

    1) I’m very glad you think so! Super relieved that the response has been so positive to these tracks, I’m a lot less nervous about this record being totally reviled now lmao.

    2) I don’t think it was anything super premeditated on Brett’s end. We did some awful demos in the month leading up to entering the studio, but our schedules at the time were totally out of sync and the demos came out absolutely unlistenable and took forever and I think Brett was gonna write to them but just didn’t work out. The crazy part is, for the most part, Brett ended up finding the vocal melodies on the first couple passes and so there probably aren’t many alternate melodies. We did have to go back and re-do vocals for “police chief’s niece” and “happy heart broke you” bc the ones we had were really not great. So, those exist, and I think I sent them to a couple people (Zac and Casey for sure), but they’re 100% not worth hearing lmao. There’s also a video on YouTube of us playing “let’s take medicine” live a year ago when we first wrote it. The melodies and lyrics are totally different to what made the album. And we don’t collaborate on lyrics really, this album did have an exception to that tho, Brett was having trouble with the lyrics to “bridge over what” and sent them to me and was basically like “if you have any ideas for how to make this better pls lmk,” and I did some editing. It was my idea to do the Something Forever reference in the chorus lol.

    3) you’d have to ask Brett about the art, he’s been in control of that aspect of the band p exclusively from the beginning. He runs the band twitter so just @ him and he’ll probably reply.

I want everyone I know to love this album!!!! "this is the last time" is honestly up for song of the year for me--I listen to it SO much. that's on top of the rest of the record being jam after jam. the guitars on this just wiggle their way into my brain it's amazing.

is that one your favorite? i tried to choose one but it's really difficult. i keep switching songs but there was one in particular that reminded me of d plan in the vocals that i keep anticipating (i have to look up the name l8r)

it’s always interesting for me to hear people name favorite tracks from this bc it seems like everyone has a different opinion (and very rarely do they match mine). I think that’s a good thing?
I can definitely see that comparison in bridge over what, especially the drums in the chorus.
brings me back to the Brooklyn Vegan comments section for the nvr ur gf premiere lol. “How original, doesn’t this band know there’s already a band called mineral?” and “dis track 4 real blowes.”
