This is very good. I've been jumping back and forth between this and TWIABP. Can't wait for that deluxe vinyl set to come in!

Gotta say I don't love the production this. I feel like in some areas it suffers from the same problems I had with BalCo's TTWTWM. Feels very flat, this is a pretty dynamic record but a lot of times that aspect of it feels muted -- the harder parts don't feel like they hit as hard as they're meant to. The less busy parts don't feel like they have as much to breathe as they should. The drums feel pretty muddy too which was probably intentional, but it's just not my thing really.

Alright that's my only negative thing to say though cause this record rules in like every other aspect. I like their other records but this blows them both out of the water, they nailed it hard

 

This is rad. Loved Youth, slept on EIGTH for whatever reason though, so I prob should go back and listen to that too.

Side comment - I doubt this is intentional, but the album art reminds me of Sly Stone's "There's a Riot Going On."

 

haha no sorry if the way I said it was confusing. I was justifying downloading the leak because I already pre-ordered it.

 

this album just feels like really good alt rock to me. It’s not reinventing the genre but it always keeps things interesting. It never gets stuck in a particular groove for too long, and right when you think you have a part figured out it throws you a curve ball. I love the drums on this album, he’s constantly changing his beat patterns and really using the full set constantly. I think a lot of bands get stuck with somewhat “boring” drummers that play maybe two to three beat patterns a song, this album never does that. It’s something really small but it’s something I really appreciate.

 

I dont want to jump the gun, but prior to release, As You Please was my favourite song I had heard all year and it isnt even the best song on this album so Im pretty sure this will be my AOTY.

Still some time and I know Pianos might still release an album this year but still.

Really trying not to listen to the leak and wait for Friday...

 

This is far and away the best thing this band has done, it's really damn good. And to think during this stretch of great music, Citizen's record was my least anticipated, its surpassed a few others that I thought would be better.

 

I don’t want to be the guy to say it, but I like this way more than the turnover record from this year. They are both completely different albums but I find this one way more interesting.

 

I was expecting both Turnover and Prawn's new albums to surpass this easily, but I'm on the same boat as you. Although I'm into Prawn's "Run" a whole lot at the moment, this just has more variety.

 

Yea, I like the prawn album but I havnt been drawn back to it as much as this and twiabp.

 

Oh crap, thanks for reminding me of twiabp, slipped my mind. This year is insane for my music taste.

 

Yea you def need to check that one out. Very different but I think it’s really good

Yea at the start of the year I was way more excited for Turnover than Citizen, but now that I've heard them both I'm way more excited about Citizen than Turnover.

Still like Turnover, but it hasn't really fully clicked for me yet. I'm sure it will as their tour approaches and I pay a little more attention.

 

I finally gave up on the Turnover record. Maybe I'll try again next year. Pretty easily the biggest disappointment of 2017 for me.

 

New Turnover is OK, but PV is much better. New TWIABP and Prawn are also much better.

 

Yeah the new turnover was good, but PV felt like it was so much bigger and they were trying to break new ground as a band. New record just feels like a lazy PV. I cant even remember the albums name right now

 

Well now saying it's like a lazy PV is just wrong. Sounds nothing like PV

 

you all are crazy, Good Nature is great. The melodies are more subtle but once they click, they REALLY click. The lyrics are an astronomical step up compared to the sad pop punk lyrics of PV, and the production is so much clearer.
