Rough. Saw it coming I suppose.

Must be strange being a Dortmund fan seeing your club this kind of super feeder club to Bayern or whoever.

Woof. I'm surprised many don't leave Germany altogether. Gotze and Lewandowski were bad but this one must be the worst. God help Dortmund is Reus goes to Bayern.

Dortmund is on the stock market so they have to publicly announce every important information that may have an effect on the value of the company.

I really hope Hibs wins promotion in Scotland. Then Brighton in England would be interesting. Crazy to see 3 clubs equal on points at the top of the table at this stage of the season.

It also puts it on him, not them if / when they sell.

I get that, that's just not a good thing. It's asking for a backlash against the player. That would piss me off.

Personally I'd enjoy seeing a little backlash against the player if this goes through. Requesting a move to their biggest domestic rivals is a shitty move imo.

Man I hope Ben Arfa wins the player of the year in France. PSG's tyranny over French football is awful.

This was a pretty good watch about the John Green/AFC Wimbledon story.

Valdes' loan has been cancelled by Standard and he's returning to Manchester.

Can someone either explain or provide reading material on how the loan process works?

I'm trying to understand the sport better and I get that loans are like soccer's "free agency" but it seems really weird to me.

it's not anything like free agency. you loan a player to get them more playtime and/or rid their wages for the length of the loan, that's generally the use of it.

I don't have any links but a loan is basically what it says on the tin. Team A own player X, Team B wants X but doesn't want to or can't buy X outright. So they offer Team A to loan X to Team B. Team B gets temporary registration of X and has to pay a % of X's wages (this can be anything from 0-100%). Loans are usually subject to a loan payment as well. Team A holds the ownership of the player through the whole process unless they agree a deal with Team B to purchase the player outright.

I misspoke. The "transfer window" is more like a free agency. Correct? And these transfers are across all/most soccer leagues? I read that the current transfer format is not highly regarded by people and that it might be changed?

Thanks for this. The motivation to loan a player out is either cap relief or to make sure they are getting reps and not toiling at the end of the bench? Is part of the deal that Team B has the option to purchase the loaned player outright, or only in specific cases? Like, do teams hesitate loaning players out in fear of completely losing that players rights at the end of the deal?

And ostensibly a team can loan a player out, then turn around and play the team the player is now on? Is that common? Or are most cases just loaned players to different leagues?

I mean it's not really that possible to equate the transfer market to how it works in US sports. There is no salary caps outside of America I believe. Motivation for loans for the team that owns the player is usually to get them game time at a competitive level. For the "buying" team it's usually to get a player for less money than it would cost to outright buy them, mitigating some of the risks of buying said player.

The most pertinent example of a loaned player playing against their home club is when Courtois was loaned by Chelsea to Atletico and Atletico knocked Chelsea out of the Champion's League. Though, some clubs do put in their loan contracts they can't play against their home club should that happen, though most don't. Dyer played against Swansea, Denis Suarez and Halilovic played against Barca, etc.

Now I'm sitting here wondering who Barca is gonna offload this summer, wondering which loaned players are coming back, and wondering who we're gonna buy.

Another example is Coman at Bayern, he actually knocked Juventus out of the Champions League.

  22. So Dier did get a concussion after being fouled on the WBA goal. So no Alli and maybe no Dier this weekend. Cool cool cool. Very cool and good.

Premier League rules had it that a loaned player couldn't play against their parent club, was that changed recently? I'm pretty sure they were the last of the big leagues to have that rule.

I think they did change it back, because Dyer definitely played against Swansea this year.

It was generally a "gentleman's agreement" that they couldn't play against their parent club. It's not a necessary condition of a loan.
