Not crazy about Blood On My Hands but I like it enough. Artwork is so much better than Liars.

I don't like Lies nearly as much as I used to and Artwork has grown on me a fair amount since 2009 but I still think Lies is a lot better.

 

I really never came around to Lies. To me, it feels like the band trying to recapture their prime and it feels less genuine. Artwork feels like they decided to say fuck it and do what they wanted to

 

Lies feels more like them doing whatever they want to me. It's just the logical progression from what they were doing on ILAD with a bit more experimentation. Artwork just felt like they tried to be more straight up rock. I think the only time they've felt like they were chasing the past was on Vulnerable.

 

Empty With You is so good

 

Vulnerable covers a lot of new ground, I wouldn't call it chasing the past

 

I don't think everything on there was, but I remember thinking when they went back to Feldman and then heard stuff like "This Fire" that they were trying to get back to their old sound a bit after the reception Artwork got. Obviously they did a fair bit of new stuff on there too though.

 

I don't know what world Lies has more experimentation than anything previously, like maybe Paralyzed.... but otherwise I can't agree

 

Agreed with Paralyzed sounding different, the rest sound like b-sides or copies of songs from the first two albums.

 

I don't mean they experiment more on Lies than they did on ILAD I just mean they took the sound they already had and tried some new things. Poorly worded.

I think it's weird that they put their least favorite songs on the official album and their favorites on the "b-sides album".

 

When did they say which were their favorites or not?

 

Oh I was referring to TUG's story a couple posts above.

 

Somehow I glazed over that part, haha. I did see on wikipedia that SB is broken down this way:

I guess I never knew the story of LFTL originally being a certain thing before changing gears

 

I remember reading that it was originally going to be a double album. I'm sure TUG is right remembering that interview, just sounds like they thought all the material they recorded around that time period was really strong (which I agree with)

 

That would make more sense. I don't think they would have willingly put their least favorite songs on the official studio album. Maybe they talked about it in the making-of DVD that was included in the special edition of LFTL?

 

I remember watching that Making Of so much when it came out, I wish I still had my copy of the DVD. It always really inspired me, haha.

 

Sadly, I've never had this DVD :(

 

I know I have that DVD somewhere but I don't remember it much. Now Berth on the other hand....omg I watched the shit out of that with my one friend lol We still quote it whenever we see each other.
