  2. Pennywise guys are in their 50's too. I'll stop there...this type of music doesn't *have* to stop when you hit 50.

Oh, well then I completely disagree. There are a ton of bands coasting on their fast paced music well past 50-60

  4. This was posted earlier today; Tom's announcement kind of took over for our discussion

My biggest gripe with his statement is that he pretty much implied that they NEED a producer to put out good music and that he himself doesn't.

And that's about the time I checked my email. Nobody likes checking the spam folder. And you keep hitting on that refresh button, all I want to know about is, What's my presale code? What's my presale code?

It's interesting to think about blink being in their late 20s when TOYPAJ came out. How much do you think they thought about writing some of those lyrics? Like, some songs are literally about not listening to your parents and being punk, and others deal with some pretty heavy subject matter. How much of it was fan service? How much of it was pandering? It's clear that they ditched that sort of immaturity with blink-182 only 2 years later.

The leap from TOYPAJ to Untitled was massive, and though the latter is an extremely important album to me, I can't help but believe that it was forced.

    Forced maturity, you mean?

  14. I think that songs like Anthem Pt. 2 and Give Me One Good Reason are totally Tom writing "punk" songs/lyrics just to appeal to teenage outcasts or whatever. Mark is so much stronger on that album, even if most of his songs are about girls.

@popdisaster00 hell, the Descendants are making a new record. Those guys are up there in age. Punk is timeless.

Yeah, Give Me One Good Reason has aged super, super poorly and makes me question what they were thinking when that came out.

  20. Probably the worst lyrics on that album.

    but that chorus is catchy

Idk, I mean as stated above it seems like Tom is the one forcing the punk rock high schooler schtick on TOYPAJ and yet he's the one who became so self serious in recent years. I wonder what the deal is with that

I dunno how "forced" I think the maturity on untitled is. It carried over lyrically and sonically to +44 and Angels & Airwaves.

Of course it was forced. They got married and had kids. Those major life changes impact people and their beliefs/philosophy.

I get writing songs about being younger however old you were, and Tom was just like, 26 or something when TOYPAJ came out. Mark was pushing 30 though and wrote "Online Songs" and "Rock Show". I like the songs a lot, but...
