Pretty cool that they're all female artists.

My night got the McCrary Sisters :/

  3. What kind of bass is that in the Tiny Desk video? I feel like I know basses pretty well but I've never seen one like that before.

  4. I don't know, but Jimbo was using it when I saw them in June, but only on "Codeine" if I recall correctly. Also, when I saw them last year I believe he used a stand-up bass on only "Codeine," so I'm assuming that it is some kind of mock stand-up? I dunno. I bet if you asked Jimbo on Twitter he'd reply though.

Got a CMA nomination for Album of the Year. Never thought I'd see the day.

  9. Wow 60% of the CMA noms for AOTY are actually pretty good...Jason, Stapleton and Miranda

And what tf is a "musical event of the year." All the nominees appear to just be songs featuring other artists.

I saw them again last Sunday, the setlist had a good variant from when I saw them on 7/2 but it was equally as great. Amanda's set was also pretty damn good, Jason came out and did three songs with them. Last Wednesday I got to meet him, her and the rest of the band before their show in Akron but sadly it was the same night as John Mayer. Super nice people!

Spotify radio just put 'Chaos and Clothes' on right after a Ryan Adams song.

    Nice subtweet, Spotify.

Wow chaos and clothes is fucking heartrending. Even though it's for a guy who's pretty outwardly shitty, Jason knows how to write tunes that fucking tug at your emotions

The melodies in the verses, that slow slide up and down in the chorus, vocally this thing is just gorgeous

I remember seeing a tweet from RA a while back that sounded like he wasn't a fan of Jason writing the song at all. I can't find it now though, maybe he deleted it.

Chaos and Clothes is probably my favorite off TNS, and the Tiny Desk version made me like it even more.

I wonder why Ryan seems so offended by it? Maybe they aren't as good of buddies as they were.

Some of these heavy hitters in that Alt-country/Americana scene don't seem too fond of each other, which sucks because the original "outlaws" used to collaborate a lot and I'd love to see more features out of this group.

I think the big 3 (Stapleton, Isbell, Simpson) are all cool with each other.

I've also gotten that vibe from him in recent months, which is a bummer. Dude can write some great songs.

Yeah, that's true. I wish Justin Townes Earl would collaborate with these guys again too. He and Isbell had it going on there for a minute. I think back to like The Highwaymen, or Earl & Van Zandt, or Blaze Foley and Van Zandt, and that collaboration spirit just doesn't seem to be as alive with this group of songwriters.

Which artists are you referring to? I feel like there's a lot of mutual respect between most of the big players in this genre space.

Dude's going through some shit right now, I think. His recent tweets have not been too flattering, but I've gotten the feeling that he's a good guy usually, just temperamental.

Specifically speaking of collaborations. Personally I'd like to see JTE, RA, Isbell, & Sturgill write more songs together. Throw Moreland in there too. I see them tweet to each other from time to time and some of them seem to get along. But when we think about Isbell playing on Harlem River Blues, that's more of what I want and we don't really see that anymore.

I think a piece of that is that Isbell, Sturgill, and Moreland really don't co-write at all. It's just not really a part of their process. RA is definitely more open to collaborating, though, and Isbell, Sturgill, and Adams have all produced records for other artists, so that's something I'd like to see more of. An Isbell record produced by Ryan or Sturgill would be amazing.
