Jeez what kind of terrible person do you have to be to walk out of a date because of that? Bullet dodged

Yeah. It sucked for like two minutes, but we were meeting at a bar that hosts an open mic I play at a lot, so I hung out with my bartender friends and drank for cheap (free).

I'm not. It's an odd place, but I'm actually happy being single. Most days.
I have a screen reader that tells me what's on the page, and type from memory. They did braille keyboards when we were younger to help with muscle memory, but I haven't needed the assist since I was ten or so.

How on earth does Tinder work if you're blind? Does it read the profile to you and you just swipe based on that?

Sorry if that comes across as blunt. I'm frankly fascinated as to how you go about using something as shallow as Tinder, without being able to see it.

Not blunt at all, friend. You have questions, I have answers!
I started by going and reading every profile, but then I realized I was learning a bunch about people that, statistically speaking, I'd never hear from again; that minefield of needing them to swipe right, engage in a conversation saying something other than "hey..." the odds weren't on my side. Plus, that took a really damn long time.
I tried asking sighted friends, but that just seems... sad? Uncomfortable?
So now I just go through and swipe right on everything. Assuming we get a mutual, I'll go in and read the bio to see if (1) there's any interest and (2) if so, what I can use to start a convo. If there's nothing of use in there (I don't care about someone's snapchat/IG username, for example) I'll ask a friend to describe the pictures.

I am fascinated by this too! It's soooo cool.

I wear hearing aids myself so I find it enthralling finding out how other people deal with their quote/unquote disabilities.

That's great, although, I'm surprised you don't mention the blindness in your profile, mainly because it allows you to seamlessly follow up with: "I have a super cute guide dog named Howard, and he's the man!".

That's surely going to score some swipes.

Sometimes I really wonder like why do I keep trying to do this? I feel like it's making me more of a mess than I already am

My coworker is having her 27th wedding anniversary this week and I am sorry but how tf do ppl do that like wtf that's forever. Maybe cause everyone in my family is divorced lol but that's wild. But then I'm like why would you wanna be with one person for that long??? I guess when u find them it sounds nice but I can't begin to imagine any human I want to be around constantly for like one year let alone 27 of them. Human beings are wild.

Right like my coworker was saying how she was 20 and she waited until her 18 yr old boyfriend graduated hs to marry him so a few months after graduation he got married like wut I can't imagine. My parents had kids and married young too and I can't imagine being married with two kids rn. I don't feel I'm even adult enough for that like who would allow me to make a decision like that haha. Which is funny cause as a kid I figured I'd just meet someone in hs and marry them at like 20 at least.

it's weird how that's treated as the norm, like you like being with someone for like a month and then you hate their guts but stay with them because or else you're lonely and horny or something I don't know it's weird how people talk about relationships

I can't fathom how this must feel. My parents divorced when I was 3 so I don't remember much. 28 year old me would likely be devastated if they weren't with their true person they should be with now though.

My parents divorced from when I was like 12-16 (they were on and off a lot) and it was the most traumatic thing I've ever been thru which sounds dramatic af but it changed the course of my life forever. it's awful and I feel for anyone who has to go thru a divorce or watch their parents divorce. I think it almost always ends up being for the best in the end, but it's such a painful thing to go thru

People I went to school with started 'dating' in sixth grade and never dated anyone else or broke up EVER. They got married at 25 and only ever dated each other. NO ONE ELSE EVER. What a fucking gamble / waste. Like... how can you possibly know that person is "the one" when you have only ever been with that person.

    Triple post for the win.

My parents got divorced when I was in fourth grade and I was happy as shit because my dad was always a drunk crabby douche bag and that meant we got to move out of our boring crappy house. I remember dancing around a lot.

  23. Kiana

My parents both cheated on each other, but then kept trying to make the marriage work even after my dad moved out. It was super confusing for me to never know if they were together or not, and to be introduced to their partners in the midst of that. when I was young I thought of my parents as superhuman. Watching that image explode and realize they are also human and make mistakes was a hard lesson to learn and my relationship with my mom never recovered. They were both a mess and I was just a tween so I became the responsible one who tried to hold everything together and suffered from depression and anxiety and now when my family teases me for being such a boring square I'm like hahaha laughing on the outside... and on the inside I'm like you made me this waaaaaaay

But I do think divorce is a positive thing. Not like yay divorce is great but I much prefer couples knowing when to call it quits than dragging something on.

Going through it at 22 is weird. I think it’s an entirely different experience than if they’d have separated when I was a kid. Granted, I don’t have anything to compare to, but I understand marriage and divorce entirely different now than I did even just 6 years ago.
