I hate going to the dentist. I also hate Mondays. I need to remind myself to avoid that combination ever again. Being hungover certainly didn't help.

Anyways yeah happy one month anniversary to Science Fiction. Can't wait to spin it this afternoon to celebrate.

I've been lurking this thread periodically since SF came out. (I'm only partially familiar with the blakebeats saga, but I saw enough to get his lack of basic reasoning.)

I finally signed up for an account when I was watching videos from the High & Low set and started crying. I thought I'd made peace with this all being over, but I guess not. It's crazy that this band still has such an impact on me at 29 as when I was in high school, but here we are.

Anyway, was just listening to the album & wondered what the significance of the title Desert was. I think it's meant to be the verb, not the physical place. Could it be that the character is warning what happens if you become a "deserter" of God? That might have been super obvious, but I just realized it & thought I'd share

I honestly haven't given much thought to the title "Desert" (which is terrible because it's top 3 on the album for me). It's one of two song titles (along with "451") on the album that doesn't have a clear connection to the song. I think you're onto something with it being the verb as opposed to the place.

Personally I think it might refer to the way someone like the character in the song pushes everything/everyone they don't agree with away, until eventually they're completely isolated from society (physically and/or mentally), like being stranded in a desert with no one to save you [note: this also works into something I mentioned elsewhere that the "don't come running to me" line can be turned back onto the character]. That might be a stretch, though.

 

At first I thought of it as just stranded in the desert. Then, I thought of the pillar of salt line in No Control, which is a reference to Sodom & Gomorrah. I tried to make a connection there, but apparently that wasn't actually a desert. But yeah, the song could also be about the character's pov leading him to a mental/emotional desert

 

I always thought that line in the chorus was Jesse's words to the character in the song as well.

 

So it's not about something tasty like a banana split you're saying? Damn I had a bad hot take.

 

Earlier I decided Batter Up, meant that Jesse was making pancakes.
