From a quick Google of entrance criteria:

"One of the Foundation's many functions is to recognize the contributions of those who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of rock and roll by inducting them into the Hall of Fame."

By that logic, possibly? They're one of the most influential bands of the last 25 years, judging by the amount of acts that declare them so. Just off the top of my head, there's - Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, Mcfly, All Time Low. Just in those 4, there's hundreds of millions of record sales. Their influence in the genre is undeniable.

But in wider music? I don't know. In comparison with Greenday, maybe not. It's a tough one, even as a fan of the band.

I highly doubt they'll ever get inducted. There's been plenty of bands that were very popular that have never been inducted. Just because they were super popular almost 20 years ago doesn't mean they're bound to be in.

They haven't had the same impact that bands like Green Day have had. Blink has had plenty of success obviously - but they're not a band like Green Day with mass appeal.

I certainly can see them being inducted. I wouldn't bet money on it but I also would not be shocked. The band in comparison is certainly Green Day and Green Day certainly deserves it, but blink definitely has paved a path for many future early/mid 2000's pop punk bands and Tom's voice alone influenced a handful of bands to go for that vocal sound (in retrospect probably not a good thing? heh).

I'd imagine most bands from from 2000-2008 would name blink as a huge influence. They certainly left their mark, I just have no idea if the breakup, the ridiculousness of who they were as people, and Tom himself would be an overarching negative consequence.

I also know nothing about HOF inductions/qualifications.

I totally see them being inducted. There's not denying the influence they had on mainstream rock music, fashion and culture in the early 2000s.

Looking back at old blink set lists from 2004, they played a medley of older songs: Dumpweed/M&M's/Josie/Man Overboard. They really should do something similar like this more often, especially since they have some many songs to choose from, knocking 4 out in 4 minutes seems like a good idea to give the set some new life.

Also looks like starting in 1999/2000 they fell into the same set list for each show routine, only swapping out a song or two here and there.

  9. Looking at everyone who has been inducted into the HOF, Green Day is pretty much the only one that sticks out to me as like "...really?" Green Day definitely is more "deserving" of it than Blink is, I'd say, but at the same time, I don't really know why Green Day is even in there, haha.

I'm a fan of the medley idea. As for the set list routine starting in 1999/2000 it's because they started having sophisticated stage production. Stuff likes that makes it a lot more difficult to change songs on the fly.

I think you're underestimating the impact Green Day had during the mid to late '90s.

They pretty much killed grunge overnight; ushering in an era for bands such as The Offspring and Rancid to receive airtime on mainstream radio.

I Feel both Green Day and Blink are powerhouse influences in their own rights. I admit Green Day is bigger(better is subjective) but you can't discredit Blink's reach either.

I wonder if Green Day ever gets into the HOF if they didn't make American Idiot.

Blink were never as critically acclaimed as Green Day, but they sold as many or more records and with untitled and California, there is a bit more favorable critical consensus about them that enhances how many view their back catalogue. Even if I think California was middling, it sold well and garnered a Grammy nom or two, which doesn't mean anything significant but I think is a part of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame resume. There are legions of bands not in the hall of fame though that deserve to be in, that probably "deserve" it more than blink.

I'll just always wish and wonder about what blink would have done post-untitled if Tom never went bananas.

Yup worst thing for blink fans is that we never got a follow up to the Untitled album. You wonder what would have happened to the band if they had that opportunity.

I love American Idiot, it got me back into loving Green Day again. Just a great album from front to back in my opinion.

I always like to imagine it would've been the good elements/experimentation of We Don't Need To Whisper and +44, heavy and fast parts of Untitled, and more Blink/BCR riffs. Also would like to imagine Travis experimenting even more on his drums like he did on Untitled.

Ps. His drumming on Untitled might be my favorite part of that album.
