It's cracking me up that they released a demo for a game without a name yet. Oh, Square Enix. Voice acting combined with the look of an SNES era RPG is really strange but I'm liking the game. Some of the dialogue is... unexpectedly graphic.

I'll add to the Odyssey praises. It seriously can't get over how fun this game looks. It just looks better and better with every glimpse of something new. And you just know with the care and polish Nintendo puts into games like these that it is going to be something special.

They are #3 on the US eShop best selling list right now, I'm pretty sure their sales are incredibly higher than in other consoles.

 

Project Octopath is seriously everything I've been waiting for, really stoked on that.

Also shoutouts Bethesda for really going all in with the 3rd party support. Hope more developers follow that lead

 

Hopefully the Red Dead delay had something to do with having a Switch version available for day one.

 

That Mario Party game is going to be so much fun to play with my son.

 

Same, I was going to preorder it the other day and then I realised it came out the same paycheck that I'll be going to 5 gigs in.

 

Beat Kingdom Battle. Definitely a satisfying finish, though I think the game towards the end reaches Crash Bandicoot levels of ridiculousness in difficulty. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't imagine anyone perfecting the final boss without every single upgrade imaginable. Going to try to perfect it though.

 

About to travel a lot for work. Should I go for Kingdom Battle? I'm so pumped for Odyssey that I just want to play a Mario game again. haha.

 

I thought the whole direct was fire emoji. Preordered the Odyssey bundle and will probably sit on it as a Christmas gift for my nephew. A lot of things shown that I am excited about.

 

Dang a $380 Christmas gift for your nephew! I get my niblings a $25 Target gift card.

 

He's a damn good kid. Two little brothers and he's so fucking cute and helpful to mom. He's the kind of kid who asks for apple slices instead of fries with his happy meal to "be a good example" and he just started first grade. Prob will be too broke to follow through with a move in my near future but I'll try lol

I really want to buy either Doom or Skyrim since Bethesda is showing support for the Switch. I'm not sure which one to get, though. Skyrim is a big open world fantasy, while Doom is a fps with online play.

but in all seriousness i think skyrim in general fits the portability train of thought a lot better. doom is great, but i expect some really sparse multiplayer lobbys for the first few months.

 

Haven't seen much excitement for Wolfenstein, but I actually enjoyed it more than Doom

 

Just saw the Direct. Some thoughts I haven't already expressed before (Golf Story FTW):

I feel kind of burned by Sun/Moon. I still want to go back and finish it though, I quit after loosing to one of those dumb totems because it kept calling in reinforcements.

I think it's interesting and smart what they're doing with the 3DS.

Xenoblade is going to destroy my life. It looks so fucking amazing.

I might actually play FE Warriors, but probably not this year. The music really gets to me, haha.

I think Bethesda and others downporting their current AAA games (like Doom) is dumb. It hasn't worked on other Nintendo consoles and it won't work now and they'll end up blaming Nintendo. If anything, they should port gems from the 360/PS3 era (like Skyrim).

Arcade Archives is an awesome thing.

Project Octopath Traveler still looks so beautiful. It's a great example of a AAA publisher making a game for the specifically Switch, rather than compromised downports. I'll try to play the demo soon.

Mario looks amazing.

Etrian Odyssey V demo is also out on 3DS.

I keep wanting to get into that game but I don't have time to sink hours into it so I just end up playing the demo.

 

Also I'll grab Doom if I have extra cash. I've been wanting to play that.

I feel like the only reason they were fine porting it is it probably didn't take too much time doing so. I was hearing rumors about the Switch natively supporting Vulkan, but I haven't really found any developer saying that to be true. Plus the way they kind of just revealed it in a small direct, I don't think they're expecting it to sell a ton and maybe both Nintendo and Bethesda are pretty aware of that.

 

When I bought the switch I thought I'd use it for Zelda and mario and that's it for like a year. I'm surprised with the quality of games that had cone out so far and will be coming out in the next 6 months.

 

Getting a new AAA game like Wolfenstein 2 is huge for the Switch and hopefully will inspire other third party developers to do similar.

On another note, being able to play NBA2K in handheld mode while lying in bed is the coolest thing ever.

 

A huge majority of these downports ports won't sell. They never sold on any Nintendo platform since the Gamecube or even N64. There is no real target group for these games on the Switch, the "I love AAA games like Wolfenstein 2 but I don't have one of the more suited (and CHEAPER) consoles that have been out for years and/or I'm willing to accept a significant downgrade to play it on the go" can't be big enough. They'll probably sell enough copies this year because of the incredible Switch hype though.

 

I'm playing the Project Octagon demo and I already beat the boss in the dancer's story and the side quest with the amnesic sister, but I can't figure out what to do in the other side quest, the one where this guy is bothering this girl in front of the dancer dormitories. Anyone? @zigbigwig?

By the way, I love this demo, it's so good. The music, the art style (though I hope they sharpen it some more), the combat system - all so good.

 

Hoping the sports downports sell - Fifa and NBA aren't really an interest to me, but really hope they pave the way for Madden and NHL.
