  1. And they picked the wrong one to appease.

Of course they picked the wrong side. Most of their audience are white men.

i disagree. The general narrative right now is that ESPN is a liberal leaning channel and they really want to shed that. I guarantee that even with this statement, right-wingers will still be mad that there were no suspensions or anything.

  5. Uh. Fuck this shit.

They appeased the racists being offended for being called racists.

It's literally worse in 2017 to be called racist than it is to actually be racist.

Well, one side is clearly racist, so who gives a shit if they get criticized from that position?

I don't think you guys are being reasonable. It's a sports channel with the connotation that they're a liberal network. They don't want to be considered that. They want to be considered just a sports network.

Were you guys really expecting them to respond with "we agree with what Jemele says?". She's not suspended, she's not disciplined.

I think it's reasonable not to expect the network to side with the people who are calling for ethnic cleansing and are openly white supremacist. Regardless of what ESPN wants, it isn't just a sports network. Sports is always-already politicized, as we saw with Kaepernick. They just want to maintain the facade of neutrality, but that doesn't work if the other side is monstrous. In that case, there is no neutrality when it comes to calling out how terrible the administration is. It literally tried to ban brown people from entering the country. So, what the fuck are you talking about?

Straight up. What response were you hoping to hear from ESPN? Remember, regardless of your passion and how strongly you feel about your side (which i agree with as well), they're still a channel that wants to desperately appear neutral so they can maximize their audience. They're also a channel that has been mostly chastized from the right for a long long time (before trump). It's crazy how many times I've had to defend ESPN on other forums for "being too liberal".

In fact, i'm doing it as we speak.

Which goes back to my original statement, somehow someway, they came up with a statement that made everyone mad. They attempted to choose neutality and everyone got mad.

other than HBO, Comedy Central, MTV and MSNBC, literally, no other network would respond with that statement.
