Saw it again tonight, my buddy audibly was shocked at the Georgie scene.

 

I think that a pretty fatal flaw that the movie couldn't really work around was the fact that, regardless of the scare scenes and whatever they threw the kids into, we knew they wouldn't die. The repetitive nature of "kid is alone - kid sees something - kid looks closer - thing jumps out - kid gets away" got old pretty quickly. Obviously there's no real way to get around this what with the source material, and I understand how hard it is to capture the same essence of fear and horror that the book was able to get away with due to our imaginations doing a ton of the work, but it left me a bit disengaged with the scare scenes.

 

The whole thing with It though is that it uses fear as a way of tenderizing/marinating his victims. So it makes sense that he lets them get away after terrifying them....

 

I don't think this created the response it should have as a viewer, being billed as a horror film.

 

There's an innocence to the kid portion of the story and it makes sense that none of the group would die. Killing one of the kids off wasn't necessary knowing this is only the first half of the story, about the Losers coming together. I've never read the book but I caught on quick that they were all safe and it didn't bother me. You guys need to remember this is part 1 of a bigger story.

 

Agree w this. Obviously there's no way around it but yeah it's sorta like the ultimate spoiler hahah. I feel like they tried to create some friction there by way of having Bev captured (unless this is a thing that happens in the book, because it wasn't part of the miniseries), but unfortunately we all still knew the outcome. It was just a slightly different way of getting there, felt like a side mission in a video game or something haha

 

My gf is not a fan of horror films but will sit through a lot of them with me if they're not "too" scary or gruesome.

I'm hearing comparisons to Stranger Things, which she loved.

Should I take her to see this, or go alone?

 

Take her! Even though it's horror, has a lot of comedy and heart to it.

 

Cool. I think she'll like it. Sounds like it's closer to Super 8 than Hostel.

 

Between those two, yes a hell of a lot closer to Super 8 lol.

 

This was okay. It had its moments, but when it throws scare after scare after you, it's only inevitable that at least something is going to land. I couldn't believe how underdeveloped Mike was, even AFTER reading the takes in here before finally seeing it for myself. Still a fun enough movie though, and it wasn't garbage or anything. IMO better than the mini series which has notttt aged well.

 

Thought this movie was really good! had a lot of fun watching it. Definitely gonna be on my Halloween movie watch list from now on.

 

This was a weird movie overall, I'm finding it hard to nail down how I feel about it haha

 

Watching clips of this on youtube. Obviously horrible quality but the scene with Eddie and Pennywise is so good. It just fucking kills me how bad the CGI looks when he charges at Bill after the "real enough for Georgie" scene. Could've easily gone with a creepier practical effect

 

The worst CGI moment is Pennywise zooming towards Richie in the clown room.

I read the book and I fucking enjoyed the shit out of this movie.

God bless Finn Wolfhard, he is incredible.

Despite some of the negativity in the last few pages I thought this was awesome. Even my girlfriend who hates "scary" movies thought this was really good.

The kids were terrific.

Did anyone notice the original It head in the room full of clowns? My girlfriend pointed it out to me

 

I had to have the original IT head pointed out to me in one of those "here's a bunch of shit you missed" buzzfeed type lists. The librarian I caught the first time though and yeah that was v creepy
