How awesome is this: we have a really cool IT-ish guy who does basic troubleshooting and orders our more niche stuff like replacement keys for filing cabinets and stuff. I needed his help today only to learn that he is stranded in the caribbean due to the storms. So he is just getting free stays out of the resort while being paid by the state. Best bad thing ever.

I hate being the IT person. I don't know how anyone deals with people. Bleh.

 

And to think I'm going to go from one job to another of doing just that.

 

I almost tagged you in it lol. I like IT, even running SQL, computers in general.. whatever, but I hate dealing with people when they have their own problems. 99% of the time I say--have you tried googling a solution? and they haven't.

Right? tbh I don't know how I have done that with the general public for so long. Like, I think it'll be better with an internal client base, but it'll have its moments, I'm sure. But the general public? Horrible.

 

P sure this is the only time I've been compelled to go to opening night screenings for two different movies in back-to-back weeks

 

I can't imagine. I'm dealing with 8 other people, one server running two virtual servers and a small network. Sometimes I can't take it. The latest complaint is about how emails are bouncing back from a coworker's personal email account and I'm like: they have to get this fixed on their own. But still they come to me every 5 minutes with a complaint about how their emails still aren't getting through.

 

Oh fun. That's always my favorite. Email issues are stupid on their own, let alone people not understanding what the problem is once you explain it.

 

They're expecting a magical fix.

Oh. In the time it took me to write this post I had someone else come up to me. hahahaha

I'm in idgaf mode - I just got in an argument in team chat with a guy who used to live here and went remote because he's incredibly bitter about things and I'm just over it.
